A tale of two Brothers // A rocking boat

Our intrepid heroes played another two games, which unfortunately both were conceded.

The first match against Minnesota (who also had a rocky start so far) ended 3-9. The game was given away in the first period, where the Hounds allowed 6 goals on 26 shots. We are convinced that Nezuko, with all due respect to his performance, never had it easier to score four goals. The Hounds mostly beat themselves in this match. They were not ready when the game started and were scored against the first time at 0:50 in the first period. Then they took two penalties, each of which lead to a goal for Minnesota. The penalty kill was not as bad as this would make you believe as for the remainder of the game, the Hounds killed each of the other 5 penalties. However, their power play proved once more abysmal with zero goals on 7 attempts. Marcel had an assist on Bedard when he deceived every one, using the boards behind the goal to deliver the puck to his line mate in front of the net. The younger Janser claimed he was genuinely trying to hit the goal, but allegedly missed. We do not buy that Mr Janser, you are fooling no-one. Daniel had also an assist, for Bedard's second goal of the night when he lobbed a Hail Mary pass to his fellow winger, who already anticipated that move and entered the zone, plucking the puck from mid air. The defence was out of position, as they just were in the process of changing lines and Bedard had a one-on-one against Blanchette and buried it. Three stars were Nezuko (5g/1a), Bonds (2g/2a) and Hagstrom (0g/3a).

The Hounds' netminder had a .852 and Blanchette was .889 for the saving rate.

Marcel had 0g/1a, +1 (how?) and 27:21 min icetime (single highest of BOTH teams)

Daniel recorded 0g/1a, +1 (seriously, how?), 3 hits (tied first of the team) and was only 4 seconds shy of his brother in TOI

The rematch was much closer with the final score of 3-2 for Storm. Daniel scored the Hounds' second goal of the game, when his line mates entered the zone with speed and after 2 tape-to-tape one touch passes, he lifted the puck backhand above Blanchettes blocker. At this point the game was 2-2. Sadly, with a little more than 5 minutes left in the game, the Minnesota team scored again and Mississauge was unable to react anymore. In this match the Ontario team kept a clean sheet when playing short handed (5/5) and succeeded on the power play in return (1/6). The Hounds' goalkeeper had a heroic night with a .0930 saving rate, much better than Blanchettes .889. Three stars of the game were Pearce (0g/1a), Salo (1g/0a) and Minnesota's number 5 (1g/0a).

Marcel went 0g/0a, -1, and 26:53 minutes played (tied first of both teams)

Daniel had 1g/0a, -1 and 26:53 TOI as well

Jean-Luc Lieuxperroux had a chat with one of Hounds' analysts, to figure out what it was that kept the team from winning. According to this well-versed staff member, the problem is obvious: shots, quality and quantity. In eleven games, the Hounds had only 327 attempts, scoring 43 goals (13.15% of the shots landed in net). Their netminder had to face 455 shots, allowing 60 goals (13.19%). If the Hounds were on the same level assuming the same 13.15% scoring chance, they had 17 goals more on the score sheet. Alternatively, if they kept the same amount of shots (327) but were as efficient as Daniel Janser (18.75% of shot lead to goals), they would have scored even 61 goals (18 more than now). If one of the two statistics could be improved (preferably both) the Hounds could still make this season their own.

When confronted with this insight Marcel replied: 'We were outshot in 8 out of 11 matches and it makes sense to me that you will lose more than you win if that happens on a regular basis'

Daniel added: 'We need to be more confident in taking shots. Give the puck a chance to go into the net. We miss 100% of the shots we don't take'

Something the Hounds should do more often: Shoot.

Here the stats for the brothers so far:

Marcel: 11gp, 2g, 6a, 8pts, +1, 4 PIM, 7 hits, 29 shots blocked

Daniel:  11gp, 6g, 8a, 14pts, +1, 4 PIM, 25 hits, 7 shots blocked, 1gwg, 2ppg

REVIEW

I love the analysis style of this! It was pretty detailed as well. I wish there was better paragraphs in there as they can go long. The picture is a nice touch though! Gives it a news article feel. Overall I'll give it a 8/10 because it needs better paragraphs but I liked it overall.
