Sergey Preobraznhensky's Official VHLM Scouting Report

Info:

Height: 6’3

Weight: 210 lbs

Birthplace: Kurchatov, Russia

PROS:

Shooting - Preobrazhensky has the raw talent of sharp shooting, can snipe the puck anywhere, from blocker to arm side. He possesses amazing velocity when shooting the puck, and has no problem taking risks when it comes to shots. On top of that, he has flawless shooting mechanics, his slap shots and wrist shots are smooth and clean, with no herky-jerky movements. He can definitely be a top end shooter in the VHL.

Skating - Although built like a tank, Sergey can fly down the ice with no problems. He’s great at getting through pesky defenders and building an offensive opportunity for his team. On top of that, he has Spectacular start and stop abilities, and can sharply pivot to where he wants to go effortlessly. He can catch up to even the fastest skaters on the ice, amazing for defending and most importantly, offense. We love to see Preobrazhensky’s skating and it is a great component to have when he enters professional hockey.

Puck Handling - Sergey is amazing when it comes to handling the puck, this is great to see from a prospering offensive defensemen. We’ve seen countless times Sergey dangling around defensemen no problem, this is largely due to his puck handling abilities, confusing both the defenders and goalies.

CONS:

Leadership - Sergey is a quiet, keep to himself type of guy who lets his performance do the talking. He’s also had some trouble with the language barrier and getting familiar with the United States. On top of that, he’s not much of a “locker room” guy, he usually thinks down of his teammates and doesn’t listen to them, or their opinions. He has a “myself versus the world” mentality, believing in his mind that it’s up to himself to become what he wants to be. Everyone else is a waste of time and is trying to sabotage his work/skill. Leading us to believe that this is why he doesn’t get along with teammates and sometimes, even coaches.

Discipline - Sergey sometimes has troubles staying out of the penalty box. There are many factors that contribute to his lack of discipline, sometimes his emotions get in the way of things and take things too far. Other times, he doesn’t even realize he had drawn a penalty. He has to learn from these mistakes as a rookie so he doesn’t make the same mistakes in the VHL. These are foolish mistakes that could cost a team a win.

Absorbing Hits - Sergey has an extremely hard time keeping the puck on his stick when defenders lay the body on him. He drops dead like a bug on hits. This is the vulnerable side of Sergey’s offense, if defenses learn to start laying hits on Sergey, he will have a short stay in the VHL.

Final Comments:

Sergey has a raw talent at the sport of hockey, especially on the offensive side of things, many things like shooting, skating and puck handling are already at an elite level. He just needs to clean up his weaknesses to see even greater playing results. We see Sergey being an amazing piece to teams looking for spectacular offensive potential. If he continues to play like he’s doing right now, he’ll make it to the VHL with flying colors.
