The Jansers sure had no time to spend as they played in four games since our last article has been published. Unfortunately for them, two of these games were against the Ottawa Lynx who sight tight at 2nd and had won twice in a row before the teams clashed for the first time.

Said match went 9-3 to the Lynx. The periods were 5-2, 4-1, 0-0. It was Daniel who opened the score in the first period with a power play goal. AL passed the puck to JP who shot from the blue line Daniel reacted first on the rebound and buried the puck. The Jansers' former Brigade team mate Towbaker scored a hattrick in the first period, AL scored for the Reapers (again in power play) assisted by Daniel and Powers. The third and final goal for the Philadelphians was scored by Bernier, assisted by dokis and Moinet. Despite his 40 saves, Des Aves was still not able to stop the Ottawa tide and achieved an .816 save percentage against Red Menace's .842. The special teams were once more a mixed bag with the power play being decent (2/5) while the box play was just bad (3/6). The three stars went to Davis (2g/3a), Towbaker (3g/1a) and Box (0g/4a), Lynxes the lot of them.

Marcel logged 0g, 0a, -3 and 4 PIM (Holding and Hooking, the former leading to a goal against)

Daniel was noted with 1g, 1a, -1 and 2 PIM (Slashing)

The second match was against the Marauders and ended 6-2 for the Reapers. Daniel opened the score again with a power play goal assisted by JP and Powers. The Pennsylvanians circulated the puck in their rows until there was an opening in the box which Daniel used with a precise shot to his team's advantage. A mere 24 seconds later, Jones scored in power play (the Marauders took a penalty 10 seconds after face off), assisted by Ixazaluoh and Arpa on the rush. Before the end of the period the Floridans pulled one goal back with a power play goal of their own. In the second period the siren only sounded once for Ixazaluoh's goal, assisted by Simeoni and AL. To crush the last ray of hope the Reapers scored three consecutive goals in the third. Sanderson on the power play with Jones and Arpa assisting him, Dokis assisted by JP and Laperriere and last but not least; Powers helped by Ixazaluoh and Sanderson. Arpa not only outshone Jarvinen (.867 vs .813) he also had two assists in one game! The Reapers' special teams had a night to remember with 3/6 for the power play and 5/6 for the penalty kill units. The three stars went to Ixazaluoh (1g/2a), Powers (1g/1a) and Jones (1g/1a).

Marcel had 0g, 0a and +0

Daniel achieved 1g, 0a, +1 and 4 shots (tied first of his team)

The next encounter was against the bottom dog team, the Mississauga Hounds with the final score of 5-2 for the Reapers. The US team came out hot of the locker room and ended the first period with a score of 4-0. Powers (Mursu, Daniel), Lamb (Ixazaluoh, Sanderson) (both in power play), Brillant (Simeoni, Ixazaluoh) with his first goal for the team and Anderson (Daniel, Jones) were responsible for the early decision. In the second period AL (Simeoni, JP) scored the fifth and final goal for the Reapers. Arpas was less busy than Papineau which kind of distorts the stats (.846 vs .881 in Papineau's favour). The power play (2/4) as well as penalty kill (7/9) were up to scratch.

Marcel was recorded with 0g, 0a and +0

Daniel had 0g, 2a and +1 to his name

Papineau is beaten once more.

The fourth and final game was against Ottawa again and ended 6-1 for the Canadian team. Lamb on a pass from Marcel opened the score and from there on it was an uphill fight for the Reapers. They were not helped by their abysmal power play (0/10!) and lack luster penalty kill (2/6). The even strength score was 2-1 and would be a winnable game. Des Aves had to face almost 50 shots whereas Red Menace was asked less than 20 times to parry and hence the apparent big gap between the two netminders (.875 vs .947). The three stars were Towbaker (1g/2a), Tomacka (2g/0a) and Vignac (1g/0a).

Marcel tallied 0g, 1a and +0

Daniel had 0g. 0a, -1 and 2 PIM (Hooking, the Reapers came out of this scot free)

From the remaining five games, a further two are against Ottawa again. Under these circumstances it will be difficult to ascend to the 5th rank.

The Jansers' stats for the season so far:

Marcel: 67gp, 13g, 39a, 52pts, -4, 50 PIM, 71 hits, 132sb, 1gwg, 6ppg

Daniel:  67gp, 37g, 37a, 74pts, -10, 46 PIM, 138 hits, 26sb, 6gwg, 12ppg, 1shg

With about the same amount of games played for the Hounds as for the Reapers, it appears that trade benefitted mostly Dan, while Marcel's numbers dropped. We think that one of the reasons is that Marcel was overplayed in the Mississauga team, where he was the only decent defender. Dan replied when asked for an opinion on that: Yes, Marcel did score more, but he was like a candle that burns from both sides, he could not have gone on for a whole season like he did with the Hounds. That is no critic to N0HBDY, he had to play Marcel as often and as long as he did, he did not really have options at the time. Here in Philly the icetime is more equally distributed and if you have such an Alpha like Cadmael and very good defenders like Sanderson in the line up, you will not hog as many minutes as if you are the only defender to speak of. So, yes his numbers dropped, but that does not make him less valuable. Marcel does the nitty-gritty things right and works hard that no goal is scored against us on his watch. When he can score the better, but it is not his priority at this stage.'

That’s great work and good analytics of games I was a bit confused at first seeing some names red and some green but quickly realized that’s it was red for was the names of the goal scorers and green was the players with assist. Maybe in the next one if you continue with that idea who is a nice touch and make the name pops more, you should add a little legend at the top of your media spot to explain that red was the goal scorers and green was the assists. I also very like the end paragraph where you explain why marcel was not having the same numbers he did with Miss. In general it’s a great article. 9/10

Great job! I always enjoy your summary of games and it really shows that you're a stat nerd like myself. I also love the Hounds Graphic that you made in the post and I appreciate the different colours that identify which team the player plays for.

10/10
