BERN BEAT

by: Iclog Powerflushers

The VHLM is now well into S39 and the race for playoff positions in the European conference is still very much undecided. Bern has managed to recover from their pathetic start to the season and now find themselves in contention of top spot in the conference. Last night saw the Royals take on the Moscow Red Wolves. A team, along with the Oslo Storm, who are early favourites to join Bern in the European playoffs. It was an important game for both teams as the Red Wolves only led the Royals by 3 points in the standings. A win for Bern would see them climb within 1 point of Moscow, while a loss would see Moscow increase their lead even further.

With so much riding on this mid-season game it was obviously a scrappy affair as Moscow opened the scoring at the end of the 1st period with Kai Randal's 23rd goal of the season. Bern came out flying in the 2nd period and found the tying goal 7 minutes onto the 2nd on a powerplay. The goal was scored by former Moscow Red Wolves player Jody 3 Moons, who has spent much of this season in the shadow of all-star teammates Devin Sundberg and Sam Keeler. This was to be 3 Moons' night though.

After 2 periods the game was still hotly contested until 3 Moons struck the dagger into the heart of his former team as he scored back-to-back goals within 1 minute to complete his hat trick and send Bern home the victors by a final score of 3-1. After the game, 3 Moons had these choice words for his former team:

"I really enjoyed scoring those goals tonight. This is what I could have been doing when I played for Moscow instead of being a 4th line plug. I'm delighted that my goals helped bring home a big win for Bern. I feel like we have come together as a group after our terrible start to the season, and we're now playing our best hockey. I look forward to dethroning Moscow from that top spot in Europe."
