As the S81 entered the final quarter, it appeared the Malmo Nighthawks would have to settle for the 2nd seed in the European Conference behind the Mosow Menace for a second straight season. But the Nighthawks would not be denied. Fueled by career seasons by almost everyone on the roster, Malmo went 15-1-1 in their last 17 games to rush past Moscow and match their franchise-best record with 106 points.

Now the Nighthawks wait for the play-in round to see who their first opponent will be: their rival, the Warsaw Predators, or the HC Davos Dynamo. Warsaw was the tougher opponent for Malmo during the regular season as the Predators won 3 of 4 games although Malmo won the final game during their incredible streak. The Nighthawks had a much easier time with Davos winning 4 of the 6 games against the Dynamo. Both teams pose a significant threat to the Nighthawks and neither will be taken lightly.

“We’ll be ready for either team,” said Malmo captain Druss Deathwalker at a post-season press conference. “Warsaw always plays us hard and they’ve given us some trouble in the past. They can match our offense goal for goal. Davos has been getting better and better the last few seasons and have one of the best defenses in the league. But we know what we’re capable of. I honestly don’t think the Nighthawks have played their best hockey yet. We’ll be ready.”
