mattyIceman 1,229
Review time. Now this is getting real creative. This is a fantastic idea. The valley with the sticks and arms and hands holding the sticks, the mountainous forests with the ominous fog, the birds circling the rink, and the mysterious orb housing the panoramic view of the rink.. everything just works. I have no real critique to give besides some text; I would like to have seen a caption for this or something. The lack of color is perfect, there's flow and mystery about this. I only have praise for this gem. 9.9/10 Edited January 16, 2022 by MattyFired Steve 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/114606-where-the-hockey-gods-go-to-play/#findComment-902208 Share on other sites
Shindigs 1,771
As I mentioned before I really love your exploration of hockey combined with more traditional art. It shows a level of creativity that I often find myself lacking when trying to come up with a new graphic for the week. Mind you I'm all about the meme graphics, so different strokes and all that. But still I can really appreciate the attentions to detail. The Statues holding sticks makes it so much more powerful and could have so easily been overlooked, but it's really what makes the graphic in my eyes. My only gripe if I had to mention one would be the mountain in the foreground. Because it is in the foreground that somewhat forces you to add extra depth to the image by adding extra masked layers to approximate the extra atmosphere between that foreground mountain and the statues behind it. Usually by some kind of blueish low opacity layer. I don't usually do work that requires it, so I can't remember the art term for it. But the lack of it makes the foreground mountain appear to be the same distance away from the viewer as the base of the statues. Since the clouds and mist are a recurring theme in it. Adding something like that between the mountain and the base of statues may have also helped create the same illusion of depth for the eyes. Especially on the right hand side. I had a blue mist layer in the foreground that didn't translate very well to the forum. I find that has been an issue but thank you for really looking at this project. All good points.
