Game Recap Game #217. Ottawa Lynx v Saskatoon Wild

The second place team in the VHLM Western Conference, Saskatoon Wild, scored 3 goals in the first period to jump into a lead that could not be matched as the Wild beat the Ottawa Lynx 7-3 in a matchup.  Sean Murphy scored first after Kyou Fujibayashi intercepted a pass from Baxter Arcanum in the neutral zone.  Chase Taylor made the score 2-0 after a nice pass from Minou Lambert, on a power play after Bob Robb was call for hocking.  The Wild continued to dominate the period and picked up their 3rd goal on another shot by Taylor after receiving the pass from Jeffry Buffy in the Ottawa zone.  The play started from a sweet interception by Jack Quill.

Manny Wilson, Otttawa Lynx’ star center, started the 2nd period bringing his team back to a 1 point deficit as he scored 2 goals in the first 5 minutes of the period.  Saskatoon took over the remaining time in the 2nd; however, as Ryan, Chase Taylor, and Sean Murphy each slammed home goals.  Penalties in the 2nd period slowed the pace down a bit, but it didn’t stop the Wild from running away with the game.

Ottawa’s Addison Bond, and Saskatoon star defenseman, Brian Kowalski, each scored in the final period to end the game with the Wild adding 2 points to their standings, on a 7-3 win.  Chase Taylor, Brian Kowalski, and Sean Murphy, were the 3 stars of the game, respectively.

Saskatoon remains 2 points behind the division leader Houston Bulls, while the Ottawa Lynx are comfortably in position for a playoff spot.

Game Recap Game #220  Mexico City Kings v Miami Mauraders

Mexico City crushed the Marauders of Miami 6-2 in a game that was close in shots and almost even in penalties.  In the end, it came down to goalies.  Mexico City goalie Brandt Fuhr kept the puck out of the net 24 times on 26 shots, while Miami goalie stopped 25 out of 31 shots.

The game started out even as both teams battled hard in period #1.  The referees let the teams play and weren’t whistle happy.  It appeared it was going to be a tough game altogether but the GM for Mexico City lit up the team at the first break and they came out of the locker room ready to play.  Leandro Goncalves scored less than a minute into the 2nd period.  Matt Rooster followed up with a power play goal at the midway point.  Mexico City star Hayden Rain made the score 3-0 a few minutes later, putting the game away.  Miami shooters Charles Williams and Igor Molotov, brought the deficit to 1, until Caleb McKay scored off a rebound from Ryuji Sakamoto’s shot to make it 4-2 going into the 3rd period.

Tomas Sogaard put the game out of reach by scoring twice in the 3rd period, to finish the game at 6-2.  The stars of the game were all from Mexico City, 1st star - Ryuji Sakamoto, 2nd star - Tomas Sogaard, 3rd star - Matt Rooster.
