Landon Wolanin is a bit of a hockey anomaly. Coming from the United States Minor Outlying Islands, he had no reputable hockey experience before joining the VHLM. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and in this case, it truly took a village to raise the outstanding prospect Landon Wolanin.

Scouts have admired Landon’s raw offensive talent, ending the season tied for 1st in rookie scoring. He is also known for his ability to play long minutes and enduring the physical onslaught that hockey at this level throws at him. He has played up and down the lineup, and helped drive play for his teammates, seeing success wherever he went. He was also seen as a leader and driving force in the locker room, striving to get the most out of his teammates and celebrating any success, no matter how small.

Landon enters the draft in a strange position. The VHLE is a different game than the VHLM and with changes in how the game is played he needs to focus on finding his role. Scoring likely won’t come as easily as it has before. He should work on being a more complete player. We know what magic he can do when he has the puck on his stick, so he should focus on puck retrieval and limiting offensive chances against him. This may mean focusing less on his offensive skills and using his 2-way game to drive play, and let the scoring chances come after.

It is always hard to predict how transitions will play out, especially ones as large as this will be for Landon, but he projects to go rather early in the draft, although some teams have major positional need that may swing the draft significantly. VHLE GMs have been excited to hear that Landon is available as soon as next season, despite previous statements from the player in the past.

Landon offers himself as a very versatile and dynamic 2-way player, able to fit in any lineup. He has great ambition to grow as a player, and most of all grow the players around him. He will be training at maximum capacity over the offseason and hopes to make himself a useful asset.

VHL GMs will also be keeping an eye on Landon over the coming weeks to figure out where he fits in their plans. Landon hopes to consult with his future VHLE and VHL management to find the best role for himself. He has no preference on where he lands and is excited to find a spot in any lineup.
