An Unlikely Call

It was 4am in the morning when Tomas' phone rang. A number that he did not recognize appeared on the screen. Although unlike him to pick up the phone from someone not in his contact list, he decided to see who it was. Partly because he wanted the phone to stop ringing so that he could go back to sleep, and partly because he wanted to play his odds and tell off a spam caller for calling that early. Tomas was lucky that he didn't start the phone call saying anything he regretted, because on the other end of the line was a familiar name @leandrofg, the player agent of his teammate Leandro Goncalves. What followed next was an invitation to the S82 World Junior Championship to play for Team Europe. An unexpected call to say the least, Tomas accepted without hesitation. 

 

Needless to say, he didn't go back to sleep that night. Instead opted to start his morning early, and hit the gym. The next night he was on a flight to meet up with his team. 

 

This is what Tomas had to say about the experience:

 

"Honestly I was extremely surprised, but also delighted to receive an invitation. After seeing the roster, I was even more surprised. We've got some absolute phenoms on our team, people who tore it up in the E and the best players of the M. This is a great learning experience for me to see the work ethic required to compete at this level. Also, I have to say it's been great to have a familiar face around. Having Leandro in the locker beside me, just like in Mexico, and the confidence in my game with having him on my line has helped tremendously. He's probably the best player that I've gelled with on and off the ice. Leandro's ability to read the game, and make the right play at the right time still baffles me to this day."
