Fire Tortorella 2,653
LYNX ENJOY 25 GAME WINNING STREAK OTTAWA, ON - It’s been an exciting season for fans of the Ottawa Lynx. Expectations were high going into the season. Some believed that this team might even be better than the team in Season 35. However, at the beginning of the season, things just weren’t working out. “The start of the season was definitely trying,” coach and General Manager Jim Gow said in an earlier interview. “We were at the top of everyone’s predictions going into the season, and I think it got to us a little. We have a bunch of first-year players who are extremely talented, but not all of them have professional experience. They heard the comparisons to the team in Season 35. There was no competition that season. I think it went into the team’s head a little. We were shown right away though that the Wild and the Blades aren’t teams that can be taken lightly.” Through the first two weeks of the season, the Lynx weren’t even in a playoff spot. Behind the Blades, Wild, and the surprise Yukon Rush, the team needed a wakeup call, and it came in a player’s only meeting held by returning veterans Andrew Erikson and Leo Tesla. “We just wanted to let the guys know that this wasn’t acceptable,” said Erikson. “Tesla and I went through that last season, and to be quite honest, we didn’t want it to happen again. We knew this team was too talented to be performing how we were performing.” “We all weren’t playing our best, but everyone knew the giant elephant in the room. Douffet was going through a bit of an adjustment period at the beginning of the season, but we just wanted him to know that we all had his back. All we ask for is 100% commitment to the team, and everyone is on board with that,” said Tesla. Whatever was said in the meeting worked. The Lynx would go on to win their next 25 games in a row and sky rocket up the standings, going from fourth to second place in the North American Conference. Everything was going right for them, as they won both high scoring games and low scoring games, which were the type of matches that the team was having trouble with before. Currently, the Lynx sit 4 points above the Wild and 4 points behind the Blades for the all-important first round bye in the playoffs. With the conference as strong as it is this season, getting that first round buy is crucial. With 9 of their last 10 games against teams currently with less than 70 points, the Lynx have the opportunity to climb to that top spot in the conference as long as they win the games they’re supposed to win. All in all, it should be one hell of a playoffs in the North American Conference.
