A Couple of Calgary Games

Was this first game a game between a couple of contenders? No, but it was still a good one, nonetheless. In the 1st Period, the Wranglers outshot the TItans 13-8, but the score remained 0-0 while the goalies both shut the door. It was not until halfway through this game, at 10:10 of the 2nd Period that Phil The Rock Johnson scored the go ahead 1-0 goal for Calgary. This was his 14th of the season and was assisted by Shane Lazeski and Saku Kotkakoivu. The game would stay 1-0 until the 3rd Period where the Helsinki Titans stormed back. Outshooting the Wranglers 12-5 in the 3rd Period, the Titans took the game into their hands a scored a couple of goals. At 9:59, Nico Pierce scored his 10th with an assist from Jonathan Ori. Not even 2 minutes later, the Helsinki Titans went to the power play and it was ex-Wranglers Gustislav Nasherov who scored the go ahead goal. His 10th of the season and the assist was also credited to Jonathan Ori. Helsinki took the 2-1 lead, but this game was not over yet, as Calgary still had fight in them despite being outshot in the period. With minutes remaining at 18:28, captain Saku Kotkakoivu took a pass from Shane Lazeski and tied the game late, 2-2. This game would go right past OT and into the shootout. Erlantz Jokinen and Saku Kotkakoivu scored SO goals for their respective teams, but it was Helsinki's William Groves who got the winner for the Titans. Both goalies were great in this one was Calgary's Ben Dahl saved 30 of 32 and Helsinki's Xavier Booberry saved 25 of 27.

This game was also between a couple of teams closer to the bottom of the conference. Calgary and Vancouver have played many games in past years, and this one was no less entertaining. The 1st Period was a heavy shot one, where the shots were 15-16 in favour of Calgary. At 2:29, Shane Lazeski scored the opener with assists to Saku Kotkakoivu and AirRig GoodBrandSun. 1-0 Calgary. Halfway through the period at 10:14, Kakapo Bushtit tied this one up at 1-1  with Ryan Li getting an assist. Only 16 seconds later though, Daniel Janser gave Calgary the lead once again with James glove dropper getting his 4th assist of the season. Calgary kept shooting hard, and started to take the game over in the 2nd Period. They outshot Vancouver 15-7, but both goalies held the door shut, and this one went into the 3rd Period with Calgary leading 2-1. The Calgary Wranglers scored early with a goal from Daniel Janser at 1:09, that 3-1 lead held all the way to the end giving Calgary a 3-1 victory. Vancouver Wolves goaltender had a massive game with 44 saves on 47 shots. Calgary's Ben Dahl saved 27 of 28.
