animal74 1,808
There has been word around scouting circles that representatives from the Animal Sports Agency have been attending games in the BCHL, most frequently the Cowichan Capitals. This is notable as the ASA usually focuses on European players so there must be someone that has captured their scouts’ attention. But who would consider trying the VHLM instead of following most Canadian players’ dreams of advancing to the Western Hockey League? One WHL scout thinks there is a goalie on the Capitals’ roster that has had a tough go and might be overlooked by other scouts and thus be looking for a different opportunity. A Cowichan team official, who wishes to remain anonymous, confirms that goaltender Joel Castle fits that description, having had a bout of COVID last year and has only managed to dress for a handful of games this season for the Capitals. Sparse video is available on the prospect but the few reels obtained show above average quickness and hand-eye coordination. Another factor that might go against him though, aside from lack of playing time, might be his size. According to his profile on the team’s website, he’s listed as 5’ 10”, definitely short for today’s preferred goaltending prototypes. Will he look for a shot in the VHL? Time will tell.
