The S83 season is winding down, and the playoff picture is starting to become more and more clear. The DC Dragons are in a race with the Chicago Phoenix and Calgary Wranglers for the 4th and 5th seeds for their right to be in the playin round in the playoffs. The Dragons have a good chance in snagging one of those seeds, that is the good news. The bad news is S82 1st round pick Ronan Lavelle has struggled mightily this season. Lavelle had been a 40+ goal scorer in the VHLM, and then a 100 point, 49 goal scorer in the VHLE. Expectations were high for Lavelle that he could once again elevate his play at a higher league. Especially playing alongside Taylor Mourning, notorious VHL goal scorer and Ryan Vidot, who made the jump from defenseman to forward. Lavelle has only mustard up 39 points in 66 games played, just 13 of those have been goals. Lavelle has watched his fellow S82 rookies, who he has competed with thrive while his production has been null and resulted in many 0 point games. What is the reason for this struggle? Does Lavelle not have what it takes to elevate his game to the VHL level, or could this be a game of patience? That hasn't helped Lavelle's personal frustration. "Individually, I could be doing much better. It has been frustrating. But this isn't about me, this is about the team. We are in a position to make the playoffs and I need to do my part to make that happen. I am not worried at this point what is on the scoresheet." Lavelle said after DC split their series with Calgary yesterday.
