And so it goes, you never know when these clauses and fine prints in your contract come in handy. Not that those clauses and fine prints were needed or even looked at during the last few weeks, but it is still nice to have some security, it is nice to have control over your future, especially when you are an older player like I am.

In other news, I noticed that Baozi, one of the moderators, was given a suspension. I am not sure why exactly, but I assume they said something in the roe v wade thread that warranted the punishment. We are living in odd times, moderators create bait threads, and moderators get into heated debates that now lead to suspensions. For the longest of times, I have seen the moderators as these "super users", almost like robots or computers. They are programmed to think and analyze the content through the rules, they do not make mistakes, and they do not let their emotions show, they are these calm forces in the sea of words.

Due to recent events, I am forced to re-think my stand on moderators. Of course, not all moderators do crazy things, but when you have six or something moderators, one creates a bait thread that has led to one user getting banned, and another moderator being suspended - winds are changing. Has the league leadership said to the moderators to come down from their ivory towers to spend more time with the peasants that roam around the VHL? League leadership wants to see more forum activity, who better to push activity than moderators? They know the rules, and they have analyzed who knows how much content, so they should have plenty of ideas for discussions.

Nobody wants to see suspensions and bans, but I can not blame the moderators or anyone who tries to create some activity around the forum. Not every post is straight. Not every single is a classic. Not every present is a wooden horse. We learn as we go.

I think the moderators do valuable work and want to see VHL do well.  If you ask me, I think the league leaders should consider increasing the moderator pay. I believe moderators claim 6 TPE right now, but if they are now encouraged to do more forum posting, the pay should be increased to at least 8 TPE. The reason is simple: creating content that speaks to people is not easy. You do not have roe vs wade type of topics every week. Then on top of that comes the actual moderating work, where they have to think about what each topic or comment might possibly mean. What does anything mean, you know? It is tough work and takes a lot of mental energy to do.

It will be interesting to see what the future brings. I hope moderators and everybody else will continue to post threads and posts to the VHL forum. We can not ever have too much activity around the forum.
