Calgary Past Few Games

Recommended Posts

The Calgary Wranglers have started off the season on a good note, going 7-2-0 in the process and currently tied for 1st in the North American Conference. Their 3 game winning streak is 2nd behind Helsinki's 4 in a row, and hope to continue on that path.

Let's take a look at their recent games.

In Calgary's most recent game, it was a battle between a couple of teams who are looking to be at the top of the league by the end of the season. This game started off slow with both teams having 9 shots in the 1st Period, but the game was 0-0 heading into the 2nd. In the 2nd Period, things started to heat up when defenseman Erlantz Jokinen gave Calgary the 1-0 lead just 27 seconds in. A few minutes later at 3:19, Daniel Janser scored his 7th of the season and Calgary went up 2-0. Only minutes later though, Seattle bounced back when Sigard Petrenko scored his 4th of the season for Seattle and brought the score to 2-1. Seattle was only down 1 goal heading into the 3rd Period. In the 3rd Period, Seattle wanted to come back, but Calgary poured it on when they outshot Seattle 17-4 in the 3rd Period alone. While both teams were scoreless in the 3rd, that onslaught was enough to hold Seattle back and secure the 2-1 victory for the Calgary Wranglers. Ben Dahl saved 23 of 24 for Calgary, and Daniel Janser's 1 goal and 1 assist lifted the Wranglers over the Seattle Bears.

In the game against Vancouver, this was one that Calgary was expected to win. In the 1st Period, Erlantz Jokinen opened the scoring at 14:55 to give Calgary the 1-0 lead. Assists went to Daniel Janser and Saku Kotkakoivu. That was the lone goal of the period. In the 2nd Period, Calgary dominated while outshooting Vancouver 16-7, although Vancouver goaltender Brandt Fuhr shut the door. The Wranglers were held to 1-0 throughout the period and this one would head to the 3rd. In the 3rd Period, this is where things started to open up. Just 6 seconds in, Daniel Janser scored the 2-0 marker, with assists going to Erlantz Jokinen and Saku Kotkakoivu. 38 seconds later, Kotkakoivu and Jokinen set up Landon Wolanin for his 3rd of the season, suddenly putting Calgary up 3-0 in under a minute into the period. However, at 6:28, Vancouver finally got on the board when Aurelien Moreau scored his 6th of the season with assists to Kakapo Bushtit and Brendan Telker. All of that hope was lost though when just a minute later, Landon Wolanin restored the 3 goal lead for Calgary once again, and put them up 4-1 at 7:24. That 4-1 lead would hold, and the Wranglers would leave this game with a 4-1 victory. Ben Dahl saved 22 of 23. Landon Wolanin's 2 goals gave him 1st Star of the Game, while Saku Kotkakoivu's 4 assists helped push them past the Wolves.
