Calgary Gets Some Big Dubs

Recommended Posts

After a strong start to the season and a bit of a stumble as of late, the Calgary Wranglers currently find themselves with their 3rd win in a row and 14-8-2 record. That record of 30 points is good for 4th in the conference, 5 points behind the 1st place Chicago Phoenix. With some more consistent play like they've had in this string of games, they could find themselves further up the standings.

Let's take a look at their past couple of games.

The Calgary Wranglers dominated this one against LA, and they got off to a strong start at doing so. Saku Kotkakoivu started this one off with a goal at 9:21 of the 1st Period with an assist to Asher Reinhart. Minutes went by, but then Daniel Janser scored 2 goals in 13 seconds in the final 5 minutes of the period, and suddenly the Wranglers had 3-0 lead. The shots were 16-8 in the 1st, and LA goalie Art Vandalay was having a tough go of things. In the 2nd Period, Daniel Janser wasn't done there, when at 1:39 into the 2nd he scored his hat trick 3rd goal of the game. Both Asher Reinhart and Saku Kotkakoivu got their 17th assists of the season on that goal. Then all the way at the 10:51 mark, Daniel Janser scored his 14th of the season, and 4th goal of the game. Art Vandalay was relieved of his duties in net and replaced with LAS G1. Calgary would continue to dominate into the 3rd Period, but LAS G1 would keep the door shut and hold Calgary to their 5-0 lead. Late in the game, Los Angeles went to the PP and scored, breaking the shutout and bringing this game to 5-1. That score would hold and the Wranglers would come away with the victory. LAS G1 saved 21 shots in the 3rd Period alone, showing off his computerized skills. Daniel Janser's 4 goals were of course the 1st Star of the Game.

In this game, Calgary faced off against a European squad with a similar record than theirs. This was expected to be a close game. Erlantz Jokinen would start this game off early with a PP marker at 2:37 of the 1st Period. Just 3 minutes later, Luc Tessier doubled Calgary's lead to 2-0, and were off to a quick start. Luc Tessier would score another goal at 14:04, and just like that, the Calgary Wranglers were ahead 3-0. However, with under a minute left in the 1st, Reylynn Reinhart scored to bring this one to 3-1 and give hope to the Helsinki Titans. The Titans wouldn't stop there, and they would outshoot Calgary 18-9 in the 2nd Period and queue a comeback. Nico Pearce scored his 19th of the season at 11:33, then at 14:26, Milan Dvorak would score his 1st of the season on the PP to tie this game up at 3-3. Suddenly, we have a game. In the 3rd Period, Calgary would answer back with some dominant play. They outshot Helsinki 18-8, and Saku Kotkakoivu scored his 14th of the season at 8:04. This 4-3 marker wound up being the eventual game winning goal, and Calgary would take that 4-3 victory to the bank. Ben Dahl saved 35 of 38 for Calgary. Luc Tessier's 2 goals and 1 assist gave him the 1st Star of the Game.
