This offseason, Maloish decided to take a much-needed vacation. This meant that he would get away from the hockey world, at least temporarily. That's what Maloish thought though. His vacation would be interrupted by a major shakeup. While at the pool in Mexico City, Maloish gets a text from the Wranglers GM saying to call him.

"Hey Maloish, I know you are on vacation. I just wanted to keep you in the loop so you aren't caught off guard. I'm putting you on the trade block for cap reasons. It's going to take a lot to trade you though. You might get some calls from other GMs for interest."

The phone call ends and Maloish just stares blankly at his phone. The trade block... already in his career? He felt betrayed and upset. He knew it was all a business, but he was just drafted and finished his rookie season. How could his contract already be bad for the Wranglers?

He put his phone down and went back into the pool. He was trying to get his mind off of the current situation. Unfortunately, it didn't take long before his phone was ringing from GMs with interest. What was supposed to be a nice relaxing vacation quickly turned into a work trip. Maloish angered but didn't want to take it out on the GMs, answered all the questions calmly and truthfully.

When his phone was silent for a few minutes, he finally decided to turn his phone off and just relax at the pool. His mind was racing about the reasoning for the sudden trade possibility. Maloish remembered that the GM said it would take a lot to trade him though. So back into sunbathing he went.

A few days pass and Maloish completely forgot about the trade block call. He was getting food with some friends when he got a phone call from the Wranglers GM again. Maloish excused himself and walked to a private spot.

"You've been traded to LA. They made a great offer that I couldn't refuse."

One phone call flipped his world upside down. Traded? Already? Was I not good enough? Did I do something wrong? Self-doubt slowly crept into his mind. Was this going to his career? Being traded to new teams. Should he even bother getting a house this time? He just bought a house in Calgary which he needs to sell now.

He returned to his friends and told them the news. They were floored as well. "The 'big return' was 5th overall in the draft." A hushed murmur was going around his friend group. They were trying to keep their comments away from Maloish. He was not happy about it. He knew he had to walk away and let them talk amongst themselves at this news.

Maloish excused himself again to walk away from the commotion. That's when he got a phone call from his new GM in LA.

"Welcome to LA. We wanted to get a big splash and you were it."

All of the anger and self-doubt subsided for a moment.

"Can't wait to get started."
