Bojovnik 487
As the champagne corks popped and the spray fizzed around the Team Eastern Europe locker room, Jan Hlozek was sat in his stall with a calm look and a gold medal clutched in his grasp. As he untied his skates for the last time in his professional career, Hlozek can look back on his career with pride after helping the Eastern Europe side defeat Team Canada in the S84 Final. For Hlozek, it is the perfect end to his career. Despite the fact that a Continental Cup evaded him, the Czech defenceman was delighted to add a World Cup gold medal to his collection, one that will sit nicely with his World Junior Championship gold won seven seasons back. Hlozek rolled back the years throughout the World Cup, scoring 7 points in 10 games. However, for Hlozek, winning gold was his number one priority. “It’s been a great way to go out. It was truly a joy to play alongside these guys, who battled every game to get this gold medal. Sure, my career might be ending, but the future of Eastern European hockey is secure in these guys’ hands. I can leave the game happy and satisfied,” Hlozek said in the mixed zone after Eastern Europe’s gold medal win.
