As the playoffs draw near, I find its time to cover my tough guy tribute for the S85 season.  This showed some good fights and some newcomers dropping the mitts regularly.  So here we go.

VINNY DETROIT:  @dasboot

We need to look no further than reigning tough guy Vinny Detroit.  He is consistently on the top of leaderboard in PIMS, hits, and fights.  After a massive PIM total in week 1 (with a nasty headbutting major) I thought Detroit could have a shot for the PIM record (356 by O’Neal).  Sadly, he probably won’t get it this year.  But with 344 hits and 222 PIMS with about ten games left he has been impressive.  So far, he has 11 fights on the season with 5 fight wins.  Very impressive from the epitome of a VHL tough guy!

BAXTER ARCANUM: @ctots

Arcanum came out of nowhere to amass an impressive 8 fights this season (3 wins).   Not know for high PIM totals in his two years in the league, this season he literally came out swinging.  Arcanum has played with an edge all season with 144 hits and 152 PIMS.  Arcanum showed some grit in his short time in the VHLE for the Bratislava Watchmen.  There he had 178 hits and 108 PIMS while putting up some great numbers.

JARED CARTER THE 2ST. @jaredc7

Ok let’s start with the name. With a name like that he must be tough.  Carter is huge at 608 236 and plays the game with a giant bag of knuckles.  In his rookie season he had 80 Grit and has amassed 160 PIMs and 193 hits.  At 483 TPE it is scary to think just how tough this kid will be in another season of earning.   He’s had 6 fights this year with 2 wins (winning fights isn’t easy in VHL).  Also, this kid was a beast in the VHLE with season PIM totals of 233, 248, and 284 with over 300 hits each year as a defenseman.  I am super excited to see where his career is headed…..I’m sure the penalty box.

HARD MARKINSON: @STZ

Well , being one of the most skilled defenseman in the league and a guaranteed lock at Hall of Fame tells just a bit of Hard’s overall game.  He also is extremely physical and tough and willing to drop the gloves with anyone which just shows his commitment to his team. With 8 fights this season already and 232 hits its no wonder why Moscow remains one of the toughest to play against.  If anyone is wondering how to make the perfect tough defenseman just look at Hard’s build.

JAKE THUNDER:  @Thunder

Well I have to take some credit for this pick as I recruited him to the VHL and he has shined since the VHLM.  An unassuming TPE earner he has grown quickly into becoming not only deadly offensively but deadly at dropping the mitts for Davos.  With Detroit on his team it is probably hard to find suitors but Thunder had tallied 7 fights with 1 win (sadly against my player Brian Payne).  He has 151 PIMS and 186 hits but what truly tells the tale is he is off the charts in scoring this season.  22 G 61 A 83PTS his coach might keep him from that highly anticipated rematch with Payne so that he continues his scoring pace.

I am at 566 words so I will stop until next week to discuss more tough guys(and gals).  Honorable mention tough guys:

Cadmael Ixazaluoh -Toronto

Brian Payne -Warsaw

Tavish DeGroot- Warsaw

Brian Schmigel- Prague

Vasile Lamb- Warsaw

Hybrid attributed accidentally turned Baxter Arcanum into a goon! Oh no!

This is super cool and the never track stats on fights, so all of this info was new to me. Great article!
