Shindigs 1,771
Once again I find myself with several great ideas for MS to write this week, but no energy to actually write them. I've just been writing a bunch of non-league related stuff over the weekend and it's like I'm at my cap for how much I can be bothered to actually write about things in a somewhat intelligent manner. So last week I was supposed to write about goalie attribute stuff, which is still on the back burner. And this week I was going to write about depreciation management strategies in the hybrid era. But I just can't bring myself to actually do that. Because both are very interesting subjects to me, and ones where a MS on it would need to actually be somewhat well written and I'd have to spend a lot of times on presentation and presenting numbers. The latter is probably the most awkward one, since as we all pretty much know by now, skater depreciation will get changed in the future. Bek even mentioned it in the salary cap post. So it's not like that's BOG leaks, or anything. As much as I can still make the exact same point I would with what the new numbers will end up being with the old numbers. There's also a lot that wouldn't add up for how to best approach things. So I think that's just a subject better approached later, when changes have been made and everything is public. So that leaves me pulling a @MubbleFubblesthis week and writing a MS about what I was going to write a MS about, instead of just writing that MS in the first place. Very meta! But hey, it gets the job done. And when he did it, it was actually a pretty good read. Just getting a little insight into how other members approach their tasks on a week to week basis can be just as useful to read about, as anything that would have been in a "real" MS by that same user. Because it's not just about the league and our players, it's also about how we as member make our way in the league. With our weekly habits around earning being a very big part of that. Because consistency really is key, and if you struggle with it and someone else has a system that would make it easier for you. I feel like that'd be a good thing to share with others. So what about it fellow VHL members, what are your tricks to keep up the consistency with your point tasks? Do you always do them on the same day, or do you spread them over the week? Do you always do the same tasks, or do you mix it up to keep it fresh? Do you prep topics/renders in advance. Or just make your stuff up as you go along? I'd love to hear about everyone else's methods. I'm sure there's about as many different ways of doing it as there are members. That's one of the things I've really come to see as a VHLM GM. There are so many different approaches. Sure there are common denominators, and certain tasks that are much more popular than others. But there's also a lot of variety in which task someone considers easy vs. a chore. When objectively they might not even be close in how much time/effort you need to spend to finish it. The recent trivia discussion has somewhat highlighted that, how people are willing to spend a lot more time on a single 1 TPE trivia question than on a VHL.com that pays twice as much. Sometimes because they just don't feel like they have the experience with the league to write about anything, sometimes just because it's scary to put your own content out there. And sometimes because claiming just seems like a hurdle, when you could just get instant TPE at the click of a button with trivia. Moderator MubbleFubbles 1,292 Posted October 16, 2022 Moderator Share Posted October 16, 2022 I've been in a pretty good place recently when it comes to content because I've recently come up with ideas for content that aren't going to be affected by changes happening in the league, so I can write them up whenever and then wait until the right week to post it. E.g. My best player in the VHL Portal.com series has, for the most part, been written two weeks in advance of posting and I'm starting a new Media series in two weeks time once my previous multi-claim media expires that I've been writing up gradually while I still claim my previous 4 week media. Luckily having a 2 TPE job means I only have to do one more thing for my remaining 2 TPE after that and, at the minute, trivia is the quickest for me to submit since I know pretty much where everything is off by heart, but I sometimes do a press conference if I feel like a change, or a VHL.com graphic/radio if I've got something that I've previously done for fun that qualifies for it (E.g. the Vandelay graphic) or there's something I particularly feel like talking about.
