The Story of a First Gen - Sergey Preobrazhensky

Being a first gen is definitely one of the hardest positions to be in when you're in the VHL. Plenty of first gens become IA within the first few weeks of starting, while plenty of others have a hard time figuring the in’s and out’s of the league. Trust me, I’ve been there. But the league kept me interested enough that I would put out my first point task shortly after. After that, making media spots every week became like second nature to me.  I have been fortunate enough to see my player, Sergey Preobrazhensky experience all the different stages of the VHL, I would like to take this time to go back down memory lane throughout Sergey's career.

When I joined the back in September of last year, I had a ton of ambition and hope for this sim league. Within an hour of joining the league, I had enthusiastically joined the San Diego Marlins, a team that seemed a right fit for Sergey. Although it has been more than a year since my time in the VHLM with San Diego, I still have vivid memories with that team.

Joining mid-way into the S81 VHLM season, San Diego was a bottom of the barrel team. But with a few more waiver acquisitions after Preobrazhensky, the Marlins were definitely better than they once were. Before you knew it, San Diego seemed like legitimate contenders for a playoff spot. Unfortunately, they missed out on a playoff berth by just four points. I will never forget the wave of excitement I would get once sims were posted when I first joined. I still think to this day that Sergey’s first ever season was the one I personally enjoyed the most.

After having an amazing time in the VHLM, I went onto face the newly formed VHLE next season. Sergey was then drafted to the Geneva Rush. Where after 24 games, he would then be traded over to the Cologne Express. It was clear at the time that Geneva wasn’t contending and Sergey got put onto a competitive Cologne team that had a shot at winning it all. Unfortunately Cologne was not able to prevail against the Stockholm Vikings in the Semi Finals, it was a bitter-sweet ending for Sergey’s last memory in a VHLE uniform.

But Sergey had bigger things to do, he planned on joining the well renowned VHL this season. After being selected by the Moscow Menace 15th Overall in the draft, he was now ready to be called up. Sergey did not disappoint, being one of the biggest players on the ice during his time in Moscow. As a first gen, it was great being apart of a continually contending team. Although it was incredibly painful losing the Contenantal Cup Final’s season after season, it was still an experience like no other to me.

Sergey was then traded to Vancouver where he quickly became acquainted with many of his team. Sergey hopes to lead this Vancouver team to promise land, something he failed to do with Moscow.

And there you have it! So far that has been my journey as a first gen with my first player, Sergey Preobrazhensky. Although there were many growing pains and challenges with being a first gen. It was worth it in the end.
