Tavish DeGroot once again enters the free agency period following another disappointing season. The young Bosnian-Scot has not performed well in the playoffs since Warsaw's miraculous season 84 run, a return to playoff form for the defender. One point in the 3 game sweep and a whopping negative five drove the Bears down into the fire as their best player could not perform in the clutch.

This raises the questions on which teams would take the chance on a defenseman who is a consistent choker. The Seattle Bears, looking to make strives once more in the offseason and climb to the top of North America, may not look at a player like DeGroot who's journeyman leadership has proven to be a fault. The Prague Phantoms, currently battling in the championship, would love to acquire a free piece to replace the Erlantz Jokinen sized chasm on defense. Perhaps they would be dispatching the North American wild card with ease if they had a vocal leader such as DeGroot. The Chicago Phoenix, fresh off an NA championship loss, have lots of unsigned players entering season 87, and could leverage the threat of being replaced by the best defenseman in the VHL (in the first 10 games) to light a fire under their young core.
