On the heels of another strong performance this week, Vancouver Wolves' forward Dogwood Maple has inked another sponsorship.  According to his agent, Maple recently signed an exclusive endorsement deal with Delta Airlines.

"I'm thrilled to join the Delta community.  Especially being from Atlanta originally, it means a lot to sign on with the world's premier airline.  But I have to say, as excited as I am I think my family is even more pumped," Maple said with a chuckle. "They're already hitting me up for flights for upcoming vacations.  I'm sure we can work something out," Maple said.

In addition to flight perks, Maple will also appear in Delta television commercials and have his face plastered on billboards and other ad space around airports across North America.

"Apparently Delta went ahead and installed one of the huge advertising billboards in Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport back home before I even told my family.  So I got a call from my sister who was flying to New York City with my niece and nephew freaking out, in a good way.  They all thought it was really funny that there was a 20 foot picture of Uncle Dogwood at the airport.  Apparently my nephew tried to draw a big mustache on me but he couldn't quite reach it," Maple said.

When asked if this new ad campaign would distract from his on-ice performance, the Wolves' center was adamant that it would not.

"It's just a few hours every now and again with a lot of it coming in the offseason.  It's really not a huge time commitment so it won't have any negative impact on my play.  Trust me, if I thought for one second that it would hurt our franchise by even an inch, I wouldn't do it.  No amount of money in the world is worth turning my back on my teammates, my coaches, and my front office," Maple explained.

There's also a bit of a rivalry brewing in the Vancouver locker room, however.  There are unconfirmed anonymous reports that another player on the team will soon be signing a deal with Southwest Airlines.

"I heard about that and honestly I hope it's true.  That means that one of my teammates is making some more money for him and his family, so I'm all for it.  Will there be a little bit of a casual rivalry in the locker room? Of course, but it's all good.  We're all trying to have productive careers here so we know the drill.  I did come into the training facility with a bunch of Southwest flyers all over my locker.  They put a bunch of stuff in there bragging about how Southwest was ranking #1 in this category or that or pieces dissing Delta.  I got a good kick out of it and I'll definitely have to repay the favor once the other news breaks.  We're all really close here so stuff like that is common and honestly helps us on the ice.  It's truly like a family here and what family doesn't play bicker every once and a while?  Plus, we all know that Delta is obviously the #1 airline in the world.  It's not even a question."
