In what will be shock news for Seattle Bears fans, forward Yaroslav Bogatyrev underwent surgery on Sunday evening on his right arm following an injury he suffered during off-season training in Russia.

Bogatyrev returned to his native land and hometown immediately following the Seattle Bears’ elimination at the hands of the Calgary Wranglers in the S87 NA Conference Finals. He was in the midst of a serious offseason training regimen under the supervision of his father, Yuri Bogatyrev, a legendary coach who has led the hockey revolution in the city of Nizhnii Tagil.

Details from Russia are few and far between, but local media reported that Bogatyrev fell heavily into the boards during a battle drill. He went to a local hospital for initial tests, before travelling then to Ekaterinburg to undergo surgery in one of the city’s hospitals.

“He fell really badly into the boards and was down for a long period of time. It looked like an innocuous drill, but both Bogatyrev and the other guys there were battling really hard. He looked in a bad way as he left the ice, and if he was moved to Ekaterinburg, that is a sign that the injury was serious,” a eyewitness source said.
