Helsinki Titans D Reid Johnson announced his retirement, stating his time away from the team is hindering the success that they could truly be getting.

An emotional Johnson held a press conference after practice today.

”I want to thank the entire Helsinki organization for putting their trust in me to make this team a championship contender. I am holding the team back in production and I don’t think it’s fair to the guys who are more serious about this. I talked with my family and they agree it’s time to let the other guys take on the reigns and lead this team to its true potential.”

We could not get a comment from the heads of the Titans organization, but they plan to hold a meeting to discuss future steps.

Johnson has found himself struggling this VHL season, while Helsinki is finding themselves their best season in several seasons. Only time will tell if they can make it back to the promised land.
