Exciting Three Way Race In the VHLM

With the passing of the Trade Deadline and the VHLM All Stars Game in the rear view mirror, the race to the playoffs have heated up across all levels of play. In the VHLM, three teams have emerged as challengers for the best squad in the VHLM.  We will be looking at all three team, taking a closer look at the key players, highlight some big trade the teams have made, and look at the schedule ahead.

No better place to start than with the best team in the VHLM as of writing. The Mexico City Kings are currently leading the way with 74 points and a 34-12-6 record. With a deep forward corp led by Justin Williams and Noel Roux Jr, the Kings have the ability to score anytime they want. On the blue line, a top pair of Alex DeLuca and Colton Heffelfinger have been fantastic in their roles they play. As for the netminder, the Kings have the block of marble that is Ross Glagau. The Kings haven't made amy major trades, because the GM knew what he had from the start. Looking ahead, the games that Kings will look forward to the most are games 322 and 333, both against the team I will talk about next. Overall the Kings are a well built contender and any less than a Cup will be a disappointment for them.

Next is a team I know very well. The San Diego Marlins are in hot pursuit of Kings with 71 points behind a 34-15-3 record. Leading another deep foward unit are Sjin and Brad Marchand. Fradin McGryer leads the Marlins' emerging defender core. In net, you have Olivier Gauthier emulating a brick wall. With much of the depth of the Marlins being waiver players, the Marlins have made trades to try and keep the core togther. This resulted in the James McAvoy trade to Mississauga for picks. Taking a look at the schedule, the Marlins will have a chance to catch their prey in games 322 and 333 with one more game, number 305 to be precise, being important to the Marlins' season. This Marlins squad has the ability to challenge the Kings and go the distance.

Speaking of the Mississauga Hounds, did you know they are doing well too. They currently have 69 (nice) points with a record of 32-15-5. Powering this squad are the fowards Jeff Lewis, Mclean Hoover II, and Austin Goulet. Helming the Hounds defensive unit is Reginald the Dodo. Jonny Elgar is the main man in net for Mississauga. With offensive depth outside of the main three being an issue, they would pick up a solid player in James McAvoy from San Diego. Mississauga Hounds will have one more bout with the Marlins in game 305. In a weak division, the Hounds should make the cup final. However, with Mexico City or San Diego likely waiting for them, do the Hounds have enough claim the cup for their own?

With the season winding down, each of these clubs have proven themselves the favorites to win the Cup. But as the NHL playoffs have proven, being favored doesn't matter if you can't produce. Will these teams be embarrassed in the first round or will they live up to the potential they have shown so far? Join me in watching what these squads produce in the remaining season.
