Ronald Johnson MacWallace III

Overview

Standing at 5'11" and weighing 180 lbs., Ronald Johnson MacWallace III is a deceptively strong center with elite scoring and playmaking. He is a very capable player on both ends of the ice, working hard to improve many attributes of his game. Before he takes the next step to the VHL, MacWallace needs to work to improve his puck retention, skating and faceoffs. MacWallace has a very high ceiling with the potential to become a top center in the VHL. He has shown glimpses of greatness in both the WJC and the VHLM and is off to a strong start in the VHLE.

VHLM

MacWallace was drafted to the Las Vegas Aces and began his VHLM career strong, he was chosen to wear the 'A' for the season and he, along with a strong group of players surrounding him, fought hard to get Vegas into the playoffs. When some of the other top 6 players were traded away, MacWallace took another step up in his game and lead his team in points and goals to round out the season. He worked extremely well with a variety of linemates but his game benefitted most from Jeremia Barbaslov, an extremely strong passer for this level. On the defensive end, MacWallace through some big hits and wasn't afraid to get in front of the puck when needed. Heading into the playoffs he kept some of this form up but Vegas was outmatched by a stronger Mexico roster and were booted out in the first round.

WJC

Following the post-season exit with Vegas, MacWallace was drafted to play for Team World at the World Juniors. In the group stage, MacWallace showed he was exceedingly competent both on the wing and down the middle as he filled a variety of different roles for an underdog Team World. His scoring did not waver against stronger opposition than in the M, however defensively he did not look as strong. Despite his inconsistencies on defence and in the faceoff circle, MacWallace still had a phenomenal WJC campaign as he helped Team World upset tournament favourites, USA and brought home a silver medal.

VHLE

So far MacWallace has played just 4 VHLE games but he has maintained a point per game thus far, and he will be wearing the 'A' for yet another team, demonstrating his strong locker room presence and passion for the game. We will be on the lookout for how he performs defensively against stronger opponents but his two-way game has been anything but weak to start the season.

Outlook

Ronald Johnson MacWallace III has added a lot both on and off the ice to the teams he has been a part of, he has shown excellent leadership skills and is a very vocal person in the locker room. He is not afraid of taking on new challenges and continues to demonstrate a strong work ethic, which combined with his talent gives him the potential to be a legit top-line player in the VHL. His skating and puck retention has not been an issue thus far but MacWallace could benefit from a pass-first winger on his line as he is unafraid to send hard shots at the net. Although MacWallace has preferred the center position and continues to work on his faceoffs, he is also very capable on the wing because of his strong slap shot.

The future looks very bright for this Scottish forward.
