Shaggy Tipton, Management Update

Many have questioned Helsinki’s choice to hire Shaggy Tipton in management so far in Helsinki, but only positive reports have been released of Tipton and his relation to the team! Along with General Manager Frank Funk, Tipton has been very transparent about bringing a change of culture to Helsinki, coming from his days playing for the Moscow Menace under Euron Leonidas.

Tipton has been very active in terms of conference meetings and player meetings, establishing himself as a “player’s coach” sort of manager. This makes sense, given his experience as a player beforehand in the league. It is clear Tipton wants to build a competitor in Helsinki as quickly as possible along with General Manager Funk, but understands the process and difficulty of competing in the Victory Hockey League.

Tipton has also recently gained a secondary job as a General Manager of the Junior Showcase Tournament, drafting many high profile prospects of the upcoming draft to play under him. The most notable of such being Ryan Artyomov and Maxim Anisimov, who are both viewed as top-end first round picks in the upcoming draft class.

Tipton has also recently flown to Chicago following the resignation of General Manager Geoffrey Dee, but is considered a long shot as a candidate, if a candidate at all. It is clear that at this point in his career Tipton has embraced his role in management, and has so far enjoyed the job.
