Alex 3,222
Now entering their fourth season, Skor McFleury's career has been anything but expected as after 2 seasons with Riga they were traded to Davos to be the 2nd defensemen behind Jake Thunder, a potential future hall of famer. Today we will take a look back at McFleury's career and recall all the highs and lows. Season 87 After being selected 2nd overall by the Riga Reign, McFleury entered their rookie season with a bit of a chip on their shoulder, looking to prove Toronto wrong. In their rookie season McFleury would find some success as they would score 11 goals and add 31 assists for a total of 42 points as Riga would finish 4th in the European Conference! In the playoffs Riga would sweep the Warsaw Predators in the wildcard round, before being swept by Davos in the first round. In the playoffs McFleury would do their part as they would post 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points in 7 games played. Following the season McFleury would receive the good news that their regular season play was good enough to earn themselves a spot on the All-VHL Rookie team. In the offseason, McFleury would continue to train as they looked to take a big leap forward with the hope of being a point per game in season 88. Season 88 In season 88 McFleury would under-perform and not meet expectations as they would fail to reach their goal of being a point per game and only make a slight improvement. McFleury would score only 9 goals and 46 assists on route to 55 points, an improvement of only 13 points. Of note though is that McFleury did take a a huge step forward on the physical side of their game as they would have 93 more hits than their prior season. Riga would also be slightly underwhelming this season as they would finish the season with 79 points and 5th in the European Conference. in the playoffs it would be a similar story as they would be eliminated in the wildcard series in 4 games. Following a very disappointing season McFleury would enter the offseason with 1 season remaining on their contract and very uncertain about their future with Riga. Season 89 Just before season 89, McFleury's questions would be answered as he would be traded in a massive trade to HC Davos Dynamo as they would send Brian Kowalski, a 1st and 2 2nds to Riga for the struggling McFleury. This trade would work out perfectly for both parties as McFleury would finally have the breakthrough season they were looking for as they would score 22 goals and add 61 assists for a total of 83 points in 72 games played, good enough to be the 5th highest scoring defensemen in the entire VHL. Davos would also have a very strong regular season finishing with 100 points and 2nd in the European Conference. Ironically in the playoffs Davos would faceoff against Riga in the first round, where they would take the series in 5. In the second round we would see Davos would take on Prague where once again they would drop the first game and then go and win 4 straight on route to the first finals appearance of McFleury's career. In the finals Davos would take on Vancouver who was going for their 5th cup in the 80's. In the finals Davos would once again drop the first game, but would not answer back in game 2 as they would lose it as well. Just when everyone thought the series was over Davos would storm back and win 4 straight to win the Continental Cup! In the playoff McFleury would continue their great regular season play as they would have 4 goals and 14 assists for a total of 18 points in 16 games played. The Future Heading into season 90, Davos is still in good shape despite considerable losses to retirement and looks to repeat their success from last season. As for McFleury, they are looking to keep progressing and have set their goal to make a All-VHL team this season. As they near the peak of their career, they also plan to ramp up their training regiment in order to skave off the devastating effects of regression.
