Name: George Richmond
Position: Center
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 220 lbs
Hometown: Chicago, Illinois

George Richmond was born in Chicago, Illinois and is making his way to the VHL. Richmond before joining the league was known for his height and lengthy frame, which drew interest from other scouts and general managers around the league. Although not fully developed, Richmond has many pros and cons to his game that he’ll be looking to bring to the table come draft day.

PROS:

Skating:

Richmond was always a good skater growing up and with his long legs is able to easily blow by the opposition. A stride comparable to Jack Eichel, Richmond focuses on power from his lengths in long strides instead of quick short strides. This helps him utilize his height and explosive speed to deceive opponents and get around them with ease.

Explosive Shot:

On top of that, Richmond has an explosive shot, being able to fire one timers around one hundred miles per hour. This comes from his upper body strength and being able to release the puck with speed that very few can pull off in the VHL. Although at the moment it’s not the most accurate, if it hits the net, it can beat even the best goaltenders in the league.

Hockey Vision:

The last highlight of his game is his hockey vision. Richmond has been praised by multiple scouts and general managers for being able to “find the correct play” on the ice. He’s able to make a quick decision depending on the situation he’s in and find himself in a favorable situation, which the high end players in the game are able to do.

CONS:

Strength:

Although very strong on the puck, Richmond is still growing into his body and needs to gain more muscle. He has a strong shot, but sometimes gets bodied in one-on-one scenarios with a defenseman and it’s a downside for his game. However, he’s started to hit the gym and bulk up, looking to make this a positive for the future.

Defensive Zone Coverage:

Another negative in Richmond’s game is his defensive zone coverage. A full blown offensive goal scorer that can find the open ice in the offensive zone, however lacks defensive instinct. This is something that’ll most likely plague him in the early days, but is very fixable with a defensive coach in the future.

Will always make the “best” play, not necessarily the “correct” play:

Richmond has been known to sometimes look off teammates as he believes that he has a better shot than most of the league. This doesn’t mean that he won’t pass to his teammates, however, if he believes he has a better chance to score, he will take the shot instead of passing, even if his teammate is wide open. This is something that is heavily criticized by scouts, however it’s something he’s been working on.
