George Richmond grew up in a suburb of Chicago, Illinois. As a child, Richmond always loved hockey as his father would take him to the local hockey rink to watch the Chicago Steel play and he loved every second of it. After joining the local hockey team, Richmond quickly became a local sensation at a young age. However, despite being a good hockey player and having the locals know about him, he never ended up playing for a very prestigious team. Eventually, he ended up going into high school where he would play for his high school team. They weren’t the best, but it was very clear that he was the best player on the team, where he would put up impressive numbers freshman year, putting up a point-per-game. The season would end with the team failing to qualify for the playoffs, as he would enter sophomore year of high school.

One game, when they were playing their rivals, Richmond ended up scoring a highlight reel goal, dangling through three players and firing it top shelf to win the game in overtime. Unknown to Richmond, a scout was there and just so happened to watch him play where after the game, he would get invited to a USHL prospect camp at the age of 16, where players would range from 16-18 years old at the camp. He would then run into Walter Fitzroy Jr, who was an eligible draft pick for the S90 VHL draft, as he would skate with him during the camp. Walter was an unbelievable talent, as he could skate around everyone with ease and look like a living highlight reel on the ice, nobody could keep up with him! After practice, Richmond ended up talking to Fitzroy for a couple of minutes and wished him the best of luck in the draft. A couple days later, he ended up watching the VHL draft where he saw right before his eyes, Walter Fitzroy Jr going second overall to the Toronto Legion. He then knew that he could have what it took to go to the big leagues, wanting to one day, play with or against Walter Fitzroy Jr.

A day later, George Richmond got a call from the director of the USHL prospect camp letting him know that while he was impressive at his age, he would not be invited to the next stage of the camp. Richmond was heartbroken and knew that he was just as good as the other players, but unfortunately, he didn’t make the cut. He would then go through sophomore, junior, and senior year where he would dominate high school, setting records for the school and helping to lead them to the state championship, where they would play at the United Center, the stadium where the Chicago Blackhawks would play! He was honored to be able to play in such an arena, so excited that he couldn’t fall asleep the night before.

Game day had finally come for the young superstar as he made his way into the arena, getting ready to play his rivals for the last time of his career. At the arena, there were multiple college scouts looking at the young man seeing how he would perform on a big stage. Richmond’s team would end up going down early as his rivals would take a 2-0 lead early, however that’s when he had his chance. On the powerplay, Richmond wound up a one timer where he would have an empty net, a free goal! However, he ended up shanking it to the left of the net where his coach was furious and benched him the rest of the game. Richmond’s team would end up losing 5-4, where his goal could’ve been the difference maker. He then knew that he wouldn’t have many offers for college, so he decided to take on another path, to the VHL.

Richmond was an impressive shooter and although having rough finals, it doesn’t take away from the fact that he had an impressive high school career. Looking to the future, Richmond will be waiting to bring his powerful shot to the VHL and attempt to win some hardware. Although the league is tough, many people believe he has what it takes to become the next superstar and be the face of a franchise for many years to come.

However, he won’t be able to go straight to the VHL, as he’ll have to start in the minors and make his way up to the big leagues. He has multiple offers from teams in the minors as he’ll bring many options to the table for the team he ends up joining. Not only is Richmond an impressive shooter, he has the hockey vision to be able to always find his teammates, no matter where on the ice. The biggest question many people have is how he’ll adapt to the league, as the VHLM, VHLE, and the VHL are all different. Another question many people have is if he’ll be able to bulk up, which some people believe he won’t. Regardless, Richmond has an important decision to make and he’s ready to dominate the league.
