scoop 3,426
Before Jacob Stone and the newly acquired Skor McFleury play their first game together in Malmo, the pair may find themselves as teammates in the World Cup. While McFleury is a sure thing to make his debut for Team USA, Stone may not quite make the cut. Along with McFleury, Jake Thunder is a relative certainty, leaving two more spots on the roster for defensemen. Stone's potential inclusion on the roster could depend on a few things. The first question is the eligibility of Brian Payne. I am fairly confident that he is still eligible even though he is now retired, having just played in the final season of his VHL career. If Payne is indeed eligible, he makes the roster for sure, which leaves the last spot to be one of Stone or Brian Kowalski. Between Stone and Kowalski, there are some questions to consider. If the World Cup rosters utilize the post-depreciation attributes, Stone will likely be the better option. It appears as though the last two World Cups both used the playoff file, so it is likely that is the standard, meaning Stone will likely not be on the team this time around.
