UghSike 221
The Untapped Potential of UghSike Our reporters reached out to one of the newest acquisitions of The Saskatoon Wild and asked for an interview. After some reluctance to take a day off from practicing he agreed to meet us as long as we bought him lunch at Chipotle. Good afternoon, UghSike. If we knew that all it took was Chipotle to get you to answer a few questions we could have saved a trip, Door Dashed your order, and did the interview over the phone. Gas is expensive these days. Well, if I'm being honest, I needed to get out of the apartment for a bit anyway. But, aside from that, you can just call me "Sike" or "Shawn". Whichever works for you. OK. Noted, Shawn. So, now that you're making your debut in the VHL are you finding that your adjusting and transitioning easily to a higher level than your previous experiences in the South Jersey GHL (Ghetto Hockey League)? So far everyone has been very accommodating. Initially I was intimidated by the league as a whole because I know there's a strong veteran presence with much more experience and skill than me. But, I'm looking to learn from the older generation of players to help me hone and build on my skills. It's nothing like my previous experience in the GHL. But, I like to keep a growth mindset and remain open to the suggestions of the coaching staff as well as the teammates. Couldn't have said it better myself! So, what do you feel your strengths are and also what are some of your weaknesses that you foresee yourself possibly focusing on? I'd like to think that I have a strong sense of where my teammates are on the ice and great passing vision. If I'm not in a good shooting position, I'm going to find the blade of your stick and collect that "apple". If I can't put the puck in the net, I'm going to make it my goal to help a line-mate do it. I think I may try to focus on some strength training in the future. I'd like to be a more physical presence. Being able to get in the dirty areas, come out with the puck and serve it up is something I believe will be beneficial to my team and overall game. That's commendable and quite selfless! A lot of players aspire to be in the spotlight as pure goal scorers. What are your thoughts on that? Well, every team needs those guys/gals too. That's just not how I'm built from a psychological aspect of the game. Every receiver needs a passer if you want to look at it in those terms. I'm not afraid to take a shot, but I'm a critical thinker and I believe that helps me to quickly deduce if my shot is the best option or if a line-mate is in better position. So, even though the season is just getting underway, how do see The Wild in terms of the future standings? Of course, we all go in with high hopes. However, I think my hopes with this team and it's overall future are fact based. We have a lot of returning veterans who play on an elite level as well as so much new talent in their first season. I think we're a very balanced team and we're all going to compliment each other's game in some form or another. I'm looking forward to progressing with this team and seeing just how high we can elevate as a unit. Well, I think that just about sums it up! I thank you for your time and informative responses. Hopefully we can do a follow up interview in the near future. Yes! Hopefully you can buy me lunch again next week and we can talk about how my first week in the league went. Just have your people call my people! Sounds great! Until then, good luck in your endeavors with The Wild. We look forward to seeing you out there in game! jacobcarson877 and Noodle Enjoyer 1 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/144029-a-bright-future/ Share on other sites
Fire Tortorella 2,653
Review: Enjoyed the interview and the bit about Chipotle - will expand on that later. This was a good article introducing your player to the greater VHL community and the graphic work fits in very well, especially since I think the Chipotle hockey jersey was something you created? Overall, just a very solid and entertaining article - hopefully the first of many to come! Wishing you the best of luck - except when you play Ottawa! About Chipotle - had a location open up about 5 minutes from my house and was extremely excited. This was about 3 months ago. Unfortunately, this might be the worst run fast food location I've ever seen. At some point in time, this location has run out of rice, guac, chips, fajita veggies, and lettuce. There is a hilarious google review where someone ordered a salad and wasn't told they were out of lettuce and received everything included in a salad except for the lettuce. Holy shit that is hilarious, I've never been to a Chipotle not sure if we have any in BC but that review sounds legendary! That's laughable, and hopefully no reflection on the TWO Chipotle's that are opening in my town soon. Also, getting a Five Guys burgers, so one of the 3 has to be good. Fingers crossed.
