Phoenix Go Down in Game and in the Record Books

In an unforgettable battle that will go down in VHL history as the longest game ever, the Chicago Phoenix saw their playoff hopes dashed in a 6-overtime thriller against the New York Americans.

The game began with both teams trading blows with Joshua Schwarzer and Dank Turtle lighting the lamp to give the Phoenix an early 2-0 lead. However, New York quickly responded, with Vinny Lecavalier finding the back of the net to level the score heading into the first intermission.

The second period was rather uneventful, but things picked up again in the third with Kean Jeannot and Darko Alexander Malkovich trading goals. Things were looking good for the Phoenix until the final couple of minutes where Tord Yvel's late tally set the stage for a marathon overtime showdown.

As the overtime periods stretched on and fatigue continued to build the Phoenix were unable to find the breakthrough they desperately needed. In the end, it was New York's Keon Jeannot who delivered the knockout blow, scoring the game-winning goal in the sixth overtime period.

Despite the disappointment of their playoff exit, the Chicago Phoenix can hold their heads high knowing that they left everything on the ice in a game that will be in the history books. As they lick their wounds and regroup in the offseason, the young Phoenix team will no doubt draw strength from their resilience this series and work to build on the positives for next season.
