Sparks Sets Malmo Wins Record

Recommended Posts

The Nighthawks will not win a third straight Victory Cup, but there is still some history to be made in Malmo in S94, as franchise netminder Ash Sparks has picked up his 223rd win in a Malmo uniform, taking over first place in team history.

Congratulations are in order for Sparks, who hasn't just provided high-end goaltending for the Nighthawks over the past six seasons, but also been an important voice in the locker room, having spent the last several seasons as team captain as well.

Sparks currently sits at 224 wins and 30 shutouts, surpassing previous record holders Artem Tretiak (222 wins) and Michael Johnson (26 shutouts) over the course of S94. In his six seasons as Malmo's #1 goaltender, he has clearly established himself as one of the league's best, and will finish in the league's top-five in save percentage once again in S94. Sparks is set to retire after this season, but has saved some of his best work for his final season, currently ranked 2nd in the league in wins, 3rd in save percentage, and tied for 1st in shutouts. He'll inevitably have his number retired by the team one day.

There is one thing lacking on Sparks' career resume, and that is significant playoff success, especially given the calibre of teams he's played on according to the regular season standings. With the playoffs just a few games away, the Nighthawks are hoping they can send their captain off with the ultimate retirement gift - a championship ring.
