Castle passes LeBeau

Recommended Posts

As the final buzzer sounded to end the Legion’s final regular season game, a 6-2 victory against the Los Angeles Stars, Toronto goaltender Joel Castle lifted his head and raised his stick in salute to the retired jerseys hanging in the rafters and one in particular - #39 Remy LeBeau @Green – who he had just passed in his last game with his 256th win for second all-time among Toronto goalies and 38th all-time in the VHL. Castle finishes his storied regular season career among the top in most Toronto goaltending categories:

Shots Against: 16949 (1st)

Saves: 15646 (1st)

Games Played: 504 (2nd, T-22nd all-time VHL)

Wins: 256 (2nd, 38th all-time)

Losses: 197 (2nd, 17th all-time)

Overtime/Shootout Losses:  47 (2nd, T-9th all-time)

Goals Against: 1293 (3rd)

Save Percentage: 0.924 (5th among Toronto Goalies with 100 GP, Top-30 all-time)

Shutouts: 28 (T-7th)

Goals Against Average: 2.59 (8th among Toronto Goalies 100 GP)

The Legion are one of the favorites heading into the playoffs after winning the franchise’s 12th Victory Cup and first since S67. Castle only needs a series win (four wins) to become the Legion’s all-time leader in playoff wins.

It’s hard to believe for a 94-year-old franchise with so many Hall of Fame goalies,” said Castle in the post-game scrum. “But if we take care of business and focus on our ultimate goal, then everything else will come together. We’ll enjoy this right now but then it’s go time, baby!
