Player Spotlight – Slava Kovalenko

Nineteen-year-old defenseman Slava Kovalenko originally joined the Victory Hockey League just over a month ago on June 24, 2024. Kovalenko quickly headed off to Ottawa to join the Ottawa Lynx, for the remainder of the VHLMs Ninety-Fourth season. In Ottawa Kovalenko saw action in the final sixteen regular season games for the Lynx, where the youngster put up decent number as he put up two goals and seven assists in those sixteen regular season games. Unfortunately for Kovalenko Ottawa was the second worse team in the VHLM last season behind Las Vegas, so Kovalenko’s first season in the league ended after those sixteen regular season games.

 

Now amid the off-season Kovalenko is currently training in anticipation of the upcoming VHLM Dispersal Draft. To date Kovalenko has managed to put out 27 updates in his month in the VHL, which lands him as the eighteenth best prospect and sixth best defense prospect available for the draft. With the position he plays and his early ability to show how dedicated he is to training, we can see Kovalenko going higher than eighteenth overall in the upcoming draft.
