Cash Carti: From the Islands to the Ice

Born originally in Saint Lucia, the small Caribbean paradise not known at all for its winter sports, the remarkable Cash Carti embarked on an un probable journey and found his way into lacing up a pair of skates. His native country is more known for track and field, and soccer - not quite a hockey-centric environment. He spent many of his young years under the sun however his lore took a turn making him into one of the wildest stories in pro hockey.

During his early life in Saint Lucia, Carti spent his time enjoying much of what the island had to offer.  He had never seen ice until later in life and it was soccer that first sparked his interest.  He grew up playing on makeshift fields with friends and his natural athleticism was apparent very early on.  When he was just 10 years old his family decided to move to Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States of America, where his path took a turn.

Discovering Hockey in Atlanta

Atlanta was never traditionally a hotbed for hockey either, with the Atlanta Thrashers, the failed NHL franchise no longer existing after their very short stint in the market.  The move to Atlanta from Saint Lucia was life altering for Carti.  It was during a field trip with his school to a local ice rink that he first tried on a pair of skates, a completely new experience for him. There was something fascinating to Carti though, about the speed he felt on the ice.  He became obsessed pretty quickly and begged his parents to let him attend skating lessons.  They knew that hockey was an expensive sport and didn't wan't to bear the financial burden of fulling committing him to that level just yet.  Skating was a great start to see if he could develop the fundamental skills on ice first.

He was incredibly successful and caught on super quick, so after 5 months his parents did opt to let him join hockey.  Coaches were immediately impressed with his speed and balance, and once a stick hit his hands it was like the missing puzzle piece completing the skillset.  Cash Carti was a hockey player.

Climbing The Ranks

In a city ruled predominantly by football (Falcons) and basketball (Hawks), Carti stood out.  Not only was he an island born player, but his raw speed and on ice vision made him one of the most exciting young guns for scouts and fans to watch in the region.  His parents were all in on supporting his growth in the sport of hockey, and began to recognize their son was a standout talent.  They did everything they could to set him up for success going forward. Carti's breakthrough came during a major tournament in New York when he was 16 years old.  Scouts from junior leagues were in attendance, including those from the VHLM.  His dynamic play caught their attention witnessing his special blend of speed, power, agility, and scoring prowess. Scouting reports began to flood in and Carti found himself with a decision to make. Play a year in junior in the United States, or jump to the VHLM draft.

The Junior Hockey Experience

Carti ultimately decided to move to Michigan to play for the Wolverines in the NAA , a major step in his hockey development. While the transition to college hockey is normally a challenge for young players due to the game being faster, Carti found it comfortable and actually adjusted perfectly to the pace since his speed was able to match the level right away. During his time in Michigan he became known for his speed and ability to score goals in a variety of different ways, many during clutch time.  After a breakout season his draft rank skyrocketed and he was prepared for the next step.  The VHLM draft is on the horizon and Cash Carti's name should be near the top.

The VHL Dream

Ultimately Carti is poised to reach his ultimate goal of playing in the Victory Hockey League.  While the VHLM is set to be the next step in his journey, his sights are set for the VHL.  A fierce combination of lightning speed and aggressive scoring allows Carti to find success in the VHLM and scouts expect him to solidify himself at the top of the scoring stats during his time in the league.  Carti's agent has said that he hopes to land in Houston - somewhat close to home.  The Bulls are a storied VHLM franchise and house some great management.  Winning a championship in Houston is the next goal in Cash Carti's world, but the overall focus will remain achieving the Victory Hockey League and playing among the best of the best talent in the hockey world.
