After the S95 VHL Award Show was over, Alexander Beketov Trophy winner Jarmo Ruutu spoke to the media.  The Finnish center appeared to be in good spirits as he answered a couple of questions from members of the press.

How did it feel to go up to the stage and collect the first individual VHL award of your career?

JR:  I was very pleased to go up there first because I was hoping I could leave and go home early, but after I got off the stage and started walking towards the exit the people near the door mentioned I should stay because I could win another award, I was nominated for Scotty Cambell Trophy,  you know. I regret I did not say I was just going to the bathroom and then climbing out of the window, this is why I was the player with the most assists. I do not have the same killer instinct as many others have, I like to pass the puck more than I like to shoot the puck.

Speaking of the Scotty Campbell Trophy, how do you feel about Vidarsson from Vancouver winning the trophy?

JR: In my opinion, Rashford should have won it. Vidarsson had a strong year, but I don't see Vidarsson as the MVP. Vancouver had a strong team, their offense created the 4th most shots in the league, they scored 4th most goals, they had the best powerplay. The only reason Vancouver allowed so many shots was the physicality of the team, which meant they had to be on penalty kill more often than many other teams. Vidarssons performance should have been compared to the performance of a goalie in a team with no chance of competing, they faced shots and put up solid numbers, but is it as impressive if you face lots of shots when you have less skaters on the ice? The goalie in the bottom team gets no love and they at least usually have a full lineup in front of them. It is more accurate to say the Vancouver skaters carried Vidarsson than it is to say Vidarsson carried the Vancouver skaters.  Rashford on the other hand was there dominating the ice, scoring goals left and right, a constant offensive threat.  Rashford had the most points, and the most goals.  If you take me out of the picture, Rashford had 14 points more than the next player, the best point-per-game ratio in the league,  501 shots and 56 goals, pure offense domination.  I am not suggesting player who scores the most goals and points should automatically be the MVP, but if the player carries the team with one truly productive and balanced line into the 1st spot in the standings,  I think they deserve the MVP more than a player who was stat padding on the PK and were carried by two solid and balanced lines.

Overall, it was a strong show for Moscow players and staff, the organization brings home multiple individual awards, and many of the players were also nominated into the all-star teams, were you pleased to see so many of your teammates win awards?

JR: It was nice to see, Goncalves and Woods came into the roster with a lot of promise and they played really well, it is not easy to come into a team like Moscow as a rookie, but they steadily improved and helped us win games. I am not surprised at all to see both in the first all-star team in a few years.  Rashford and Canet du Bocage had killer years obviously, top players, they were unstoppable. The GM winning the top GM award, cool to see as well, they have done a lot of moves in recent years and as a result, Moscow has been at the top and will remain there for a long time.
