It was a dark night in Calgary. The air was crisp and still. Sitting at the base of the Rocky Mountains, you could almost smell the clean spring water running downwards into the basin.

Sakic stumbled out of the local bar at the edge of town. The cool air was a welcome sensation on his face. He looked down at his phone and saw a few missed calls from his agent - Phil Knight. It was late but he supposed he should return the call.

Phil picked up within the first ring. “Where are you?” He demanded.

”just catching a few brews before calling it. What’s up?”

”im afraid I have some troubling news. This is a dark call.”

”oh?”

”it seems there are some rumblings in Calgary’s head office about you. Bad ones”

”but how? I made alternate captain already?”

”conceitedness is half the problem. All I’m saying is keep your head down and grind. I don’t want this becoming something. Appreciate your understanding. Good night.”

As Sakic hung up he looked up at the mountains - his home. He wasn’t sure why there were these rumblings, but he would want to ensure they only stayed that way.
