Albin Aldgard is not looking forward to a long off-season.

The Las Vegas Aces’ defenseman looked visibly frustrated after the Aces’ 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Lynx in their final regular season game. Las Vegas scored the game’s first goal but Ottawa responded with two scores before the first period was half over. The Lynx added a third goal in the second period and then the Aces came within one after a goal two minutes into the third. But that was as close as Las Vegas would get even with the goalie pulled for the last minute.

Las Vegas would have pulled into the 8th and final playoff spot if they had won as the Houston Bulls lost their final game to the Mississauga Hounds 7-1. The Bulls finished with 70 points, one more than the Aces.

Algard failed to score a point in the Aces’ final three games and finished with 5 goals and 22 assists for 27 points in his first full VHLM season. His 22 assists were fifth on the Aces and he would have had more goals if not for a team-worst 4.39% shooting percentage.

“I’m really disappointed in myself that we couldn’t get into the playoffs,” said Aldgard after the game. “I expected better from myself, especially after making the playoffs with Mississauga last season. I know I will be better and we’ll be better as a team next season.”

The 8th overall pick in the S96 Dispersal Draft will now focus on training and getting ready for the VHL Draft where he is expected to go early in the first round.

It hurts more honestly because it was such a close race; we will make ourselves one of the teams to beat next year though!
