  • N0HBDY changed the title to Quarter Finals: Game 5

HFX 3 - 1 OTT (F)

Ottawa is now facing elimination after a game five defeat on home ice.

Game five was a slow, defensive showcase for both teams. It took over two minutes before Halifax's Cysteine registered a shot on goal, gobbled up by the Lynx netminder (Trunov); at 3:38 Nichols fired a shot wide that took an awkward bounce off the boards and landed on Ty Duke's stick, but his shot deflected off a teammate right into Trunov without a rebound. The game was tight for the next five minutes until Ty Duke would slip the puck past the redline at 8:02, giving Halifax a 1-0 lead.

Ottawa responded in the second period strong as Joel Jacobs - less than a minute into the game - tried desperately to get his team on the board. His first shot at 0:38 missed the net, followed quickly by a second shot attempt at 0:40, which also missed the net. At 0:42 John Webber III said 'That's enough!' and smothered Jocobs' third shot. Ottawa would retain the pressure through the first half but it was Halifax's Satou that would expand Halifax's lead at 10:42; the lone goal in the second would send his team into the third with a 2-0 lead.

The third period was back to strong defensive play. Shots were attempted, but most failed to hit the net. The first sign of danger came at 2:24 and 2:28 as Ottawa pressed John Webber III unsuccessfully before the game returned to a back and fourth battle through the neutral zone. Ottawa would narrow Halifax's lead at 11:05 when Codoller ripped a shot past Webber, but it wouldn't matter as the clock ticked down into the final minute of the third. Halifax never needed an empty net goal as late momentum from Bolivar, Satou and Sikes would find the back of the net at 19:29.
