The Vancouver Wolves are off to a hot start in season ninety-seven after winning the Continental Cup last year. While the Wolves have aspersions of winning another cup in season ninety-seven, it’s a feat that hasn’t happened in the VHL since the Wolvespullex off the meta threepeat back in season eighty to season eighty-two. Including the Wolves three peat, there has only been eleven back to back Continental Cup champions in ninety-seven VHL seasons, which shows how tough it is to win back to back cups in the league. In f the Wolves want to win another Continental Cup this season they will need to continue to see success from what might have been considered unlikely sources prior to the season. Today we’ll look at some of the players in the team that have currently helped the Wolves to first place in the North American Conference.

Bollos de Trueno:

Trueno is easing the way offensively for the Wolves after forty-six games played, just don’t tell him that when you talk to him. Trueno came to the Wolves as the fourth overall selection in the season ninety-four VHL Entry Draft, and was billed as a defensive defenseman. This year however, Bollos has broken out offensively putting up thirteen goals and fifty-seven assists. Bollos fifty-seven assists not only lead the Wolves roster, but puts him four assists ahead in the Beletov trophy race, ahead of Moscow’s Obuz Schneider Canet du Bocage. With a new career high in seventy points already this season, Trueno is played better than expected, even thought he considered himself a pussy prior to his recent fighting major this week. A great teammate off the ice as well, it’s great to see the success that has come Bollos way so far in season ninety-seven.

Logan Ninefingers:

The captain and former first overall pick in the season ninety-two VHL entry draft, Logan Ninefingers is having another stellar year for the Wolves. A point per game player since his sophomore season, Ninefingers is at it again in season ninety-seven putting up thirty goals and thirty-seven assists already this season. Another impressive stat for Ninefingers is the fact that hitting the thirty goal mark in season ninety-seven is the fourth time he has his that plateau in five VHL seasons. Ninefingers is coming off a stellar postseason last year, one that saw him put up eight goals and fifteen assists in only twelve playoff games, Ninefingers also made sure the cup came home to Vancouver as he put up one goal and two assists in the Wolves game six victory that sealed the deal for the club. Now of course this article was about Wolves that have helped the team get to where they are currently in the season and Ninefingers most definitely needs to be on that list.

Pierre Marc Bouchard:

Well Bouchard likely doesn’t fit in the catering of doing better than expected, it would be a damn shame if we didn’t highlight his amazing play so far in season ninety-seven. Bouchard currently sits third on the Wolves with thirty-two goals and thirty-three assists. After a breakout sophomore season that saw Bouchard put up eighty-one points, it was almost a given that Bouchard would produce at the high level he is again in season ninety-seven. Bouchard is showing last season and now as we pass the halfway season this year why he was selected so high in the season ninety-four draft and them highly sought after by the Wolves in a trade prior to the start of his rookie season.

Guntis Gavilrovs:

The big bruiser on the back end for the Wolves is showing that he is more than hits and penalties this season for the Wolves. Guntis had broken out offensively in season ninety-seven as the six foot eight inches defenseman has put up a fourth best point total on the Wolves with twenty goals and forty-two assists so far in the team forty-six games. With his best offensive season coming in season ninety-five when Guntis put up seventh points, it’s safe to say Gavilrovs will be putting up career highs in every offensive category this season. While Guntis has been impressive offensively, his defensive game is still top notch as well as he has put up a team high 186 hits and eight-five shots blocked so far. Of course Guntis has also been dropping the gloves his fair share this season, dropping the gloves a total of six times this season, winning four of those six tilts.

Matteo Stefano:

Stefano is enjoying his second season in Vancouver and is one point away from a new career high in points already this season. After a trade prior to season ninety-six that brought Stefano to Vancouver, Stefano preformed admirably last season, putting up twenty-five goals and twenty-six assists in decent-two games in a mostly depth role. Now with a more prominent role after offseason trades for the Wolves, Stefano is showing what he is really made of. So far in forty-six games he has put up twenty-one goals and thirty assists, playing on the Wolves second line with PMB. Another remember sir the Wolves ready to put up career highs in every offensive category, Stefano has been a very pleasant surprise for the Wolves management and fans this season.

Soju:

The last member on the list is the man that got benched after the trade deadline last season, goaltender Soju. At the deadline last season the Wolves management made the tough decision to trade for a veteran presence in net, acquiring Olober Syko in a deadline deal, which eventually helped the Wolves win their first Continental Cup since season eighty-six. Now Sony is the main man tending the blue ice for the Wolves and has stepped up in a huge way this season for the Vancouver based VHL franchise. So far Soju has appeared in all forty-six games for the Wolves this season posting a 34-7-4 record along with a .930 save percentage and a 2.09 goals against average. Now with likely no threat to be benched this season, the Wolves hope Sony is up to the challenge of leading the Wolves back to the promise land this postseason.
