Jordan Binnington Hello GIF by St. Louis Blues

So, I realized users don’t like playing as a goalie in this league a majority of the time. This was something I realized pretty recently with some goaltenders retiring early in favor of creating new skaters. I see where they’re coming from, as there's only so many limited roster spots for goalies and they don’t follow hybrid attributes and any TPE that gets dumped in goes straight into the single attribute. But if you build your goalie properly (which is extremely easy if you know what you’re doing), then you can have an elite player on your hands. As a first gen who picked goalie and ended up carving a Hall of Fame career, I had a blast, but maybe that was because of how successful Lachlan was throughout his entire VHL career after some rocky runs in the M and E. Or maybe I’m weird, who knows. Goalie stats also aren’t as “exciting” as skater stats, I suppose, since you really just look at win, save percentage, GAA, and if you got a shutout or not. It also depends on the team in front of you as well and I was lucky to have some pretty solid defenses in my career besides my last season with Davos, which you really can’t complain about. Overall, I understand why other members may not enjoy being a goalie as much as I did, but thought it was an interesting observation.

I think going G as a first gen is a lot more forgiving to to how straight forward the attributes are. But it's just like, "oh got 8 TPE, slam that in RB, HS, RT, or SC" there is no puzzle of how to maximize, that's solved. Sure there is a meta with Skaters, but the tweaking of a build to squeeze an extra SK for 2 less TPE I find very fun and you just can't do it with goalies.

Honestly, though, I LOVE being the team's goalie and, at this point, might just continually recreate goalies until I stop having fun with it. Something about the position has always spoken to me.

I think there was a raise of goaltenders in the early hybrid era, because they were not subject to the hybrid attributes, so 1 TPE spent was indeed 1 TPE on the stat sheet, unlike the skaters. So it kind of tipped the scales towards goaltenders, as even mediocre TPE goalies (no offence) put up saving rates that are borderline HOF-worthy. There has been a tweak a couple of seasons back (some slider adjustment) and that should have addressed this imbalance. So maybe Goalies are just more susceptible to 'mood swings' of their users than skaters. If we consider that skaters are generally speaking interchangable (position switches are possible from D to F and vice versa) the lack of a certain position is not so apparent as GMs and players figure these out with said pos changes. Which is not possible for goalers...

My first gen player was a goalie as well, I have no regrets in that choice, enjoyed every minute of it. Hexxy put up very good numbers on teams that were pretty mid (I say that with all due respect, he only got to the post season 3 times during his career)
