ace_five_ 527
Ten games into the season, it is time to announce the group that will help lead the Mississauga Hounds for the 98th season in the VHLM. With a well-rounded group going into the season, I decided to pick players who have been with the Hounds for a range of seasons. Every one of the players on this team plays a part in the success as a whole so, while three players have been selected to help lead, each person will be leaned on in one way or another. First off, we will start with the player who has the least tenure so far on the team but will be a pivotal part of the locker room and the team’s success going forward. I would like to announce, as Alternate Captain of the S98 Hounds: (A) Yor Bjorven @Rin Our number-one goalie for the foreseeable future is someone who joined the team at the end of last season to get some experience and someone I fought hard to make sure I drafted back to the team. They have the competitive spirit we need to return to our winning ways from S96, and are already a huge part of the locker room. Bjorven shows the ultimate balance of competitiveness and drive to get better every week, and willingness to guide teammates to improve as well. I look forward to them being a part of this team. Next, as our second Alternate Captain for the team this season, we have one of the most improved players I have managed in my time with the Hounds. I am happy to announce second-year player: (A) Avery Acres @Bravebulldogs Acres was picked up by Mississauga immediately following the S97 draft after being passed over by the other teams after having a slow start with the San Diego Marlins. With a chip on his shoulder, he gladly accepted the offer and hasn’t looked back since. Avery has been one of the most active players in the locker room and has been dependable since joining the team. He shows a willingness to learn about the league and grow as a player. The optimistic energy Acres exudes is an asset to the team that will help make it better on our quest to win another Founder’s Cup. Lastly, the Captain. It is a surprise to no one that the most tenured player and last season’s captain will remain the leader of this group in his final season in the VHLM. It is my absolute pleasure to announce the Season 98 Captain of the Mississauga Hounds: (C) Kurt Bachmann @Blutch Kurt has been with the team through the highest highs and the lowest lows, so he is the most suited for this position. After helping the team secure the S96 Founder’s Cup, the team went into a quick rebuild, ending S97 in dead last in the league. Knowing what it takes to win, Bachmann has been vocal in the locker room encouraging teammates after every game. Having learned from former Captain Slava Kovalenko @OblivionWalker, he has stepped up and filled the shoes perfectly and has been ready to lead this new and improved team out of the league basement. The gritty defenseman has been up to the task since day one, always putting his body on the line to make big plays and step up for his teammates. I am excited to learn more and grow with this team as we navigate a new challenge. We have the potential to do some damage this season and I know this group of players is up for the task.
