Kanye West 10
My Hockey Story – Kanye West Right Wing – Miami Marauders (VHLM) Yeah, the name’s Kanye West — not the rapper, not the designer, just a guy who fell in love with hockey and worked his way into the pros. I’m not out here making headlines (yet), but I just signed with the Miami Marauders in the VHLM, and I’m ready to get started. Haven’t played my first game yet, but that just means the story’s still wide open. I didn’t grow up in a place where hockey was the norm. No frozen ponds, no packed youth arenas. My introduction to the sport was totally random — I caught a game on TV one night when I was a kid and something just clicked. I didn’t even understand what was happening at the time, but I was drawn in by the speed, the physicality, the energy. I knew right away I wanted to be part of it. After that, I bugged my mom nonstop to try skating. Eventually, she gave in, found me a pair of beat-up skates from a secondhand store, and we started making weekend drives to the closest rink. It wasn’t exactly convenient, but once I got out on the ice, I knew it was worth it. Learning to skate was rough at first. I fell more times than I can count. But I stuck with it. I wasn’t a natural, but I was stubborn. I practiced every chance I got — driveway, garage, street hockey with whoever would play. I started watching NHL games differently, studying wingers who played with pace and purpose, picking up little habits and trying to copy them. I ended up gravitating to right wing pretty naturally. I liked being in the action — flying down the boards, putting pressure on the D, creating chances. Over time, I built out my game. I worked on my shot, learned how to find soft spots in the defense, and got more comfortable playing a full 200-foot game. I’m not the kind of player who just waits around for a pass — I want to be active on both sides of the puck. The road to pro wasn’t easy. I wasn’t coming from a big program or a known system. I had to grind to get noticed. But I’ve always believed that if you do things the right way, opportunities come — and Miami gave me mine. Signing with the Marauders is my first step into pro hockey, and I’m fired up to get going. I haven’t hit the ice in a game yet, but I’m using the time to get ready — learning the systems, getting to know the team, staying sharp. I’m not rushing anything. I know once my number’s called, I’ve got to be ready to make the most of it. Whether that’s bringing energy on the forecheck, setting up plays, or just keeping things simple and smart, I want to be a guy the team can trust. Joining the VHLM feels like the start of something big. I’ve worked a long time to get here, and now it’s about showing what I can do. I’m not expecting a spotlight right away — I just want to earn my ice, grow my game, and help my team however I can. People hear my name and might expect something wild, but I’m a pretty grounded guy. I love the game, I respect the grind, and I’m here to put in the work. The name might turn a few heads, but once the puck drops, I want people to remember me for what I do on the ice — not just what’s on the back of the jersey. The debut’s coming soon, and when it does, I’ll be ready.
