Entering his final season in the VHL, Phillip Rave has found himself on the move again, having been traded from Helsinki to the New York Americans in exchange for 1st and 2nd round picks (13th and 29th overall) in the S99 draft.

It's not where he really wanted to be when he waived his no-trade clause last off-season to sign off on a move from Malmo to Helsinki. "I didn't really want to spend the end of my career team-hopping. If I had it my way, I'd have spent my entire career in Malmo, and when I agreed to move I was certainly hoping to find a home for the last two seasons of my career. But, you know, it doesn't always work out that way," says Rave. After an eerily familiar season where Helsinki battled all season for the EU division title, then lost in the opening round of the playoffs, the Titans opted out of what originally looked like a plan to go all-in for a two season contention window.

"I get it, they had to do what they thought was in the best interest of the team. No ill will or anything."

Save for a season in the VHLM with San Diego, Rave's entire hockey career has been spent playing for European teams. He's looking forward to experiencing New York City in his final VHL campaign. "Yeah, it will be cool to live there for a year, for my final season, just to experience it. There aren't many places in the world like NYC. And we should be a good team."
