Claimed:End of Season Interview: Boychuk Edition [Final: 6/6]

Recommended Posts

Coming into Season 41 as a member of the Quebec City Meute, there were big expectations to live up to for centerman Travis Boychuk. While being an All-Star in his first 2 seasons of VHL action, he dropped off in his 3rd season and it was a question of whether or not he could raise his game back up to that level. While going through his elite struggles, he still remained one of the better centers in the league and was highly respectable. Quebec City acquired Boychuk with these notes in mind and thus far it has seemingly paid off.

In his first season as a newly acquired Meute, Travis Boychuk ended on a strong note and recorded a career high in goals with 40. His previous mark was 38 in his second season as a Wrangler. In the points category, Boychuk tied his milestone of 103 that he set for himself in his rookie season of VHL action. These efforts did not come without their own struggles, as the centerman was experiencing difficulty staying consistent throughout the first part of the season. It was not until the departure of Konstantin Azhishchenkov that Boychuk had taken over the 2nd line and regained his elite form.

With the season over and done with, it remains to be seen if the Quebec City Meute can surpass the challenge of the playoffs. With all that said, we bring to you an interview with Travis Boychuk himself.

Interviewer: With your tenure in Calgary behind you, how did you handle your first season in Quebec City?

TB: This city has been great to me thus far. I have nothing but good things to say about the fans and I look forward to what lies in the future. I think, after a bit of a disappointment in S40 in my opinion, I've gotten my game back to where I want it to be.

Interviewer: Hitting 103 points isn't an easy task by any means. How does it feel for you now that you are on-par with what you achieved in your best season?

TB: It's great. I've scored more goals than I ever have with 40, and I've tied my record that I made for myself as a Wrangler. Going forward, I only want to do even better than that. I think that if I can stay at the pace I have been on for the latter half of this season, I can definitely achieve that goal.

Interviewer: You've never exactly been known as a goal scorer, and to but many doubts to shame you have scored 40 this season. Your thoughts?

TB: Coming into the VHL I have always tried to get my shooting up to another level. It's nice to know it has paid off for myself and my team. All the practice has been worth it.

Interviewer: An interesting thing to note, is that you were a member of the Wranglers last season when they upset the Meute in the playoffs coming back for a 7th game win. Now that you're a member of Quebec City, you're on the other side of the battle.

TB: That was easily my biggest achievement as a Wrangler. I cannot say enough about my team's efforts in that series but now that I'm on the Meute, I can't see it going their way this time. We'll have to wait and see. It would be disappointing to say the least if I was on the losing side both times. Much like Marian Hossa in the NHL when he lost to the Penguins as a Red Wing, then lost to the Red Wings as a Penguin.

Interviewer: We would like to formally wish you and your team good luck in these Season 41 playoffs. May the hockey gods be with you.

TB: Hopefully the next time I'm interviewed I am a winner.

I have no idea either now that I look at it. That's what I get for writing that in 10 minutes.
