Game Discussion

This week we'll take a look at a matchup between two European Conference rivals. This one was a hard-fought battle between the Express and Titans, which should come as a surprise to nobody. A tight game all the way through, it took just under thirteen minutes for the first goal of the game to be scored. After King Czar III missed the net on a great opportunity, all was not lost as the shot left Marting Brookside out of position, allowing Oskars Harumpf to pick up his seventh goal of the season and give his team the lead. This 1-0 lead appeared to be good enough for Helsinki to come out of the period with the lead before Logan Laich intercepted a pass in the offensive zone before sending the puck to Godavari Yumalatopinto to tie the game at one. The Titans promptly regained the lead in the second period on a Naomi Young snipe, appearing to suck the energy out of Cologne. Despite a dominant second period, the Titans were unable to extend their lead and ultimately let their guard down once again at the end of the period as Nicolas Caprivi tied the game up. This goal gave the Express momentum as they took control of the third period early and held Helsinki in check although neither team was able to pick up the win in regulation. Cologne continued to control play in overtime, not even surrendering a single shot but ultimately being forced into a shootout. It wasn't even until the fourth attempt that a shot was actually put on net and it would be the first goal of the shootout that would turn out to be the winner as Mason Richardson picked up the winning goal.
