DollarAndADream 3,356
Travis' Recent Struggles Despite his team's successes as of late, 2nd line centerman Travis Boychuk of the Quebec City Meute has been disappointed in himself. His team has been great lately, going 8-2-0 in their last 10, with those 2 losses being against the New York Americans. Both of those games ended at a score of 4-2, and the weakness in the losses were the 2nd line of the Meute. Quebec still remains at the top of the league in the VHL standings, but the Americans are very close behind with only 3 points less. Those 2 games against the Meute were big ones for New York. As usual, the bulk of scoring has lied on the line of Wolf and Thomassen, who are without a doubt the best duo in the league today. If the Meute want to be champions any time soon though, it is difficult to argue that Boychuk has to be better. ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------- At this point of the season, Travis Boychuk has 55 points in 51 games. This looks to be more like play in the latter seasons of his Wrangler days, with closer to a point-per-game pace. He has scored 28 goals and obtained 27 assists, all of this despite being in a big slow down for him. His last 10 games have definitely not been terrible, having 9 points but being at a -3 in plus/minus. With all that being said, one of those games was against Cologne's backup, where Boychuk put up 2 points and a +3 effort. The real struggle has been in his last few games or so. In his last 4 games, he is a -7 with 1 assist. Although, 2 of those games are including the Americans where he had 0 points and a -5 with both of those games combined. With all of that stated, we have caught up with Travis for a brief interview: Interviewer: How do you feel as of late, with the way your play has been going and your point production? TB: It's definitely been a struggle. I really strive to try and put a good effort forward in those big games. Recently in my training I very much feel like I have gotten better, so it's disappointing to see that it's not reflecting on the score sheet. I suppose I have to be positive about it all. Interviewer: Despite your woes, your team is still doing quite well, but the Americans have taken the last two games against you guys. Thoughts? TB: It's been tough against New York. I think I want to take the blame for both of those recent losses. My line including myself just wasn't good enough. We can't always depend on Bruno and Aksel. I need to be better. This season our games against them have been close ones. -------------------------------- -------------------------------- Interviewer: What areas of your game do you think are lacking right now? TB: Considering my play last season with Quebec, it's hard to imagine getting worse. I truly thought I'd keep climbing uphill after coming here. I really need to start scoring some goals and winning those one-on-one puck battles. I take pride in my game so I need to be stronger along the boards. Interviewer: It has come to my attention recently that you are in the latter half of your career. You've been hit this season with some kind of "depreciation". Any plans of retirement, and your thoughts on it all? TB: I don't plan to retire any time soon. Eventually, but not soon. I'll definitely still be here in Quebec for another 2 seasons at least. If I could go longer, I would....but everyone needs to call it quits after a certain amount of time. That does it for our interview. It will be a sight to see if Boychuk can find his old ways and put up some better numbers in the coming games.
